In my sons school he is in the afternoon Kindergarden class. They don't provide a lunch/snack for the kids. So far he has been given junk like cupcakes which bugs me because I try not to give them to much suger and snacks. Well unlike the other parents I want to give them a healthy, but yummy snack. They appear to be a bit rushed, and I believe it has to be something fairly simple, and not to much of a mess. Can anyone help.

I understand! One thing that I find works well is fresh grapes. they are easy to pop into small mouths, and they are sweet so kids like them, but they are healthy, instead of cupcakes. Also, dried fruit like apple, bananas, pineapple, and raisins are good, and not very messy or sticky. baby carrots are good too, but harder to get kids to eat.

From reading your question, I assume that you must provide snacks for the entire class. If you feel strongly, you should send a note out to the parents with a recommendation on nutritional snacks. The kindergarten teachers at my son's school love to see goldfish (shaped) crackers, animal crackers (look for ones made with whole wheat flour or fruit juice), raisins, pretzels, or fruit. I would strongly recommend staying away from peanutbutter or any tree nut products (except for your own child). Nut allergies are very serious!

I found a great snack idea last summer that my kids loved making and eating. It consists of various fruits and a hard boiled egg- and when completed looks like Grover from Sesame Street. It was easy to make and I was able to incorporate educational skills for each of the kids (colors, counting, size, etc.). All you need to do is place blueberries on an oval shaped plate. You then slice the egg in half and the halves youk side down for eyes. Place a raisin on each egg for the pupil. I chose to use a strawberry for the nose (recipe used a tomato- yuk). For the mouth, I used raspberries for the outside of the mouth and raisins in the middle of the mouth. The kids loved how it turned out (of course, we took pictures), it wasn't messy, and it was a "tasty" (as my 3-year old says) and healthy treat. All the teacher would have to do would be to serve it on plates or in cups. It should serve at least 10-15 children, depending on the size of the plate you use. You may want to make two, or try a couple different characters (i.e.- Oscar could be made with a round plate, green grapes, eggs turned sideways for eyes, no nose, mouth would be raspberries on inside and raisins on outside, brown eyebrows with licorice/ Elmo coould be made with round plate, strawberries, orange slices for the nose, and raisins for mouth/ Cookie Monster could be made with a round plate, whole eggs for eyes, no nose, and a bigger mouth made with just raisins). Have fun!

Try stuff like lunch meat, Cheese and Crackers kids love that stuff and think they are having lunchables. When my daughter was in kindergarden last year a lot of parents sent sugar amy sister and I (he son was in the same class) word take turns sending in peanut butter and celery, carrots and ranch, and even little box of rasins for the class and I would always send milk in for them to drink...On my daughters birthday I did send in cupcakes and choclate milk but it was a special day!!

how about things like Graham Cracker sticks, fresh fruit, applesauce cups, yougurt(they have some called GoGurt, it looks like a popsicle type of package), find a healthy cereal he likes and put some in a zip-lock baggie, my boys LOVE granola bars, and of course the fav is raisins...
Hope this helps.

It all depends on what type of snack you want. I listed kraft foods as my source if you click on that it takes you to kids corner and they also have a free magazine which is great.
