Our cat is a pretty good pet. It has always used the litterbox until the past couple of months. It will pee in the litter box but poop on the carpet in the same spot everytime.
There has been no changes that would stress the cat??? Any suggestions of how to get the cat to stop or any ideas why she might be doing this?

We did take it to the vet last week and nothing? They didn't seem to have options for us.
Also the litterbox is one of those automatic kind so it is always clean.
She has been using it for a while and never had any problems before.

Take him to the vet to rule out sickness. Sometimes they hide it very well.
Put another litterbox where the mess is showing up. Only temporarily, when the cat starts using it, slowly move it back toward the original box. Moving should be over the course of a week or 2. If the accidents start again, start over.

Buy some Feliway diffusers to help your cat calm down. Ask your dad to please not yell at or hit the cat, as you may have noticed it does not help and actually makes things worse. Leave the old litter pans alone, but add a new one closer to the carpet and use some Cat Attract Litter from Petsmart. Clean any spots with enzyme cleaner like Simple Solution. Buy a couple of cheap washable bath rugs. Put one over the spot where she poops. Then you can pick up the poop with a plastic bag and wash the rug in the washing machine. If you pick a light color you can use detergent and bleach to kill germs. Sometimes you can't get perfection. In cases like this, you may have to accept "easier to clean". If you take care of it without delay, every single time, maybe your dad could live with that.

Have her checked by the vet. Cats will sometimes stop using the litter box because they associate it with pain. Since she doesn't poop in the box, maybe she's having some kind of bowel problem. Tell the vet about it. I once had a cat that dislocated his hind leg when he was playing with a ball. He was running and jumping and playing with the ball when it happened. After that he was terrified of the ball, because he associated it with his leg getting hurt. The same can happen with the litter box. Not sure if this is the case with your cat, but the vet might be able to help.

keep the cat box clean and try not to change the cat's diet to often this will slow down if not stop the cat pooping in the carpet. also keep the catbox convienent for the cat to access when you are not there personally. if all else fails when you see the cat doing it squirt it with a little water bottle and it with get the point. you most keep the water bottle up until the cat stops pooping. good luck

Move the litter box to the same spot that the cat pooped on and leave it there,. You must first do this!!!!
The cat cannot see you do this. Hide the cat before you do this. Then pick up your cat with out you seeing moving the litterbox
and put your cat in the litter box at least three times . What I mean is when the cat gets out of the box. Put the cat back in the box again , over and over again.

Pets tend to return to the same place in the house when they make their periodic pee and other mistakes. Pets have an excellent sense of smell; in fact, they can smell the residue from their previous error, and this makes them feel as if that marks the spot for the next error.
Neutralize the odor by alternating baking soda and vinegar. I always follow cleaning up a pet mess by sprinkling the area with baking soda, leaving that overnight, and then sweeping or vacuuming it up.
Pet urine often has both acidic and alkaline components, so the next step is to neutralize the alkaline baking soda and residual alkaline odor using a strong vinegar wash; I use 2 cups of white distilled water to 1 gallon of water. Wash the area with the vinegar wash, and then rinse. The strong smell of the vinegar will dissipate in a few hours.
I would also suggest putting another litter box in the house if space allows. A litter box is supposed to be on every floor of a house and a separate box for multiple cats; however, I have had success with using one box for my two cats.
I hope this helps you... good luck on changing your cat's behavior.

A litter box.
A new carpet.
Some kind of smell spray to spray the carpet so your cat doesn't want to poop there.

Could your cat be sick? I would take her to the vet to see.
Also, have you recently changed her cat litter? My cats are very particular about having no poop in their box. Or perhaps she does not like the kine of cat litter you bought. Try Dr. Elsie's litter; it was created by a vet for type of problem. Clark's Pet Store carries it, but it may be available near you. Good luck.
