This morning when I went out to my car, a small gray bird was lying dead beside my car. It didn't look like it had been attacked, so I ignored it. Later tonight I went out to take the garbage out, and I saw another one! This time it was lying beside my front porch in the yard. It didn't look like it had been attacked either. I have no cats, and my dogs are fenced in the back yard when outside. What is wrong? Is someone out to get me lol? Seriously, I don't know why these dead birds are in my yard.

You say you have found small gray birds-- do you by any chance have a field guide that you could find what kind of birds they are? West Nile is a definite possibility here but usually you'll find Blue-jays and/or Crows dying first before Sparrows and Titmice. It could be that someone in your neighborhood got careless with an insecticide and these birds got poisoned. Your County Health Department may want you to give them the birds for testing and they should be able to tell you if West Nile has been documented in your area.

There is most likely a STRAY cat living near your house. The same thing has happened to me. I have 3 stray cats in my neighborhood all have kittens and have been killing some birds that lived in a tree in my back yard. If you do anything, don't give the animal or cat any food! That will draw them to your house and they won't leave. Keep an eye out to try and see if you can see the animal
Hopes this helps you some!! : - )

You need to call the CDC, when ever you see more the a single dead bird in your area, this may be an indication that there is West Nile present or even Bird Flu.

Birds are dying from the West Nile Virus. Contact health authorities. They will want to analyze the birds. Don't touch any birds, either.

Whitney, What state are you from ? You could be dealing with bird flu, too ! You need to ask your neighbors, if they've had any dead birds. Someone could have put out rat poison..

AND YET THERE COULD BE A STRAY CAT KILLING THEM EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T SEE SIGNS OF ATTACK. ALSO SOME PLANTS CAN BE POISONIOUS TO BIRDS AS WELL AS SOME FOODS CAN BE.
