It's as wrong to spoil a pet as it is to spoil a child. Although you haven't given enough detail for anyone to be able to judge whether what you consider spoiling is the same as other people - some people think that feeding, housing, and taking an animal to the vet makes it spoiled, some think that giving the animal its own way all the time makes it spoiled (I agree with that).

I think the only way that you can over spoil your pet is by feeding it to much. Any other spoiling behavior... go for it.

Depends on the pet.

If you have a cat r a gerbil, love on it as much as you want. It will not make much of a difference.

In the case of pack based animals or animals that live in social groups- like dogs and parrots, it is perfectly fine to love them but they function best if they believe you are the leader of the pack. If you indulge them too much without practising loving but firm discipline (like asking them to sit before petting them, or holding your needs above theirs) you will end up with a pet that bosses over you. Worse, this pet will also try and boss over others. This may lead to nipping, disobedience, and lack of control. It is not the abundance of love, but the lack of discipline and leadership that cause many dogs to become the whiny insecure unstable pooches you meet so much.

So love on your dog, pamper him, spoil him. As long as he is aware you are leader, you should be fine. Discipline should never be physically harmful. A "down" command and ignoring him when he is bad is much more powerful than a slap or a yell that will only teach the dog to fear you.

Nah. We over spoil our children don't we? As long as you can spoil and keep your authority and respect, there is no problem. Spoil your pet away. They need love and attention too.

What do you consider OVER-spoiled?
Considering the dog is always there for you.And no matter what you do or say the dog puts up with and takes all your crap when no one else EVER would. It never tells on you.Calls you stupid.Or leaves your side when you don't want to be alone. No matter how bad things are the dog is there to offer comfort when others are too busy. It's never judgemental of you.And it does all it can to bring you up when others put you down.
For all that and more they offer us I don't think it's possible to do too much for them to keep them happy.Altho I draw the line at carrying Kleenex to wipe my dogs butt on walks.
There's got to be some limits you know.

It depends on what you mean by "spoil". As far as my dogs go, they are my babies, I spoil them every way I can (but not too many treats as that is very bad for them). Go for it!

Yes. A dog is a dog. Treating it like a human baby, catering to their every whim, going to them when they bark, picking them up and not letting them be dogs around other dogs is actually very, very bad for the dog. they'res nothing wrong with making sure the dog is happy and healthy, so long as it has plenty of discipline and excercise.
