Could she have given it to her and been a carrier. My daughter says she will have it the rest of her life is this true. Who is at risk. we often have her over and what do we need to watch for?

Once someone is "colonized " with MRSA- it is very difficult to get rid of that colonization.
(some work has been done with usuing topical Bactroban (a prescription anti skin infection cream). MRSA infection is treatable with a few common antibx including Bactrim, and clindamycin(orally).

So to prevent other people from "catching it "
try to avoid open wounds especially when she is around (don't shake hands with her if you have bug bite or open sore, etc..)

So more and more children are getting MRSA, some from the elderly, some from other kids,
Your grandaughter can try Bactroban to irradicate colonization, but it may be too late.

If you get an open sore that doesn't want to heal and gets crusted off ("impetigionized"), go to your own MD and tell him about your family's MRSA risk so that these other antibiotics are used to treat you (not just 'keflex")

Good luck

MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus) is extremely common among the elderly and it has a high resistance to most antibiotics, therefore making it nearly impossible to treat. Yes, she will always have it. It is also highly contagious, so use extreme caution with any boils or open skin infections, use gloves and wash your hands often. Good luck.

No she does not aways have to have MRSA. Be sure to take her to a Infectious Diease Doctor, not just a general practitioner. It can be totally got rid of if he sees her now and you do everything he says.

We all have MRSA. We just have to have something to "set it off" but there are meds that will help with it.
