I have the same problem. When I had an EGD done, the doctor told me had esophagitis. He gave me two medicines: one to coat my throat while I was eating (Sucralfate) and one to help lessen the acid in my stomach (Metaclopromide). My doctor is trying to keep me away from the surgeons if he can. The doctor also told me to try a gum called "Chooz." It helps decrease acid in the stomach. Also, try Aloe Vera Juice. Not only does it help soothe the stomach, it is great for irritable bowel syndrome.
If you do need surgery, which is the ultimate last resort according to my doctor, They will either remove part of the stomach or all of the stomach, or simply cut a lot of the nerves that tell the stomach to produce acid.
In any case, good luck. But, you should go to your doctor and see about getting the medicines that I am on. They help quite a bit.

This book is probably the most informative and practical guide on the subject of acid reflux and heartburn that I have ever read https://tr.im/acidrefluxremedies
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple. Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.
