I feel there should be some investigation to make sure the immigrants are not criminals, but why can a person not come here if they do not have a sibling or parent as a citizen. Many illegals either can not afford the sponsorship or do not have someone to sponsor them. If a child comits a crime then the parents are not held responsible so why does somone have to be held responsible for an immigrants actions. There should be rules but there does not need to be sponsors.

For the people that are answering I think it should be easier to legally get here I am not talking about illegal immigrants. I do not want open borders I just think someone should be allowed to legally gain acess to America without a sponsor if they desire to.

I think the process shold be easier for people to immigrate to the United States. And also just to get a tourist visa as well. When I was married to my first husband, who is from Guatemala, I went to the embassy when his parents tried to get a tourist visa. First, in order to be able to stand in line, they had to pay $100+. Just to stand in line. It has been a while, so I cant remember if that was in our money or their money. Then there was no guaruntee that they would be seen that day. And each day they ewre in line, they had to pay. We were there 4 days before we got in. Then once inside the embassy they had their interview, and they had all of the documentation showing they had what was requested (a certain amount of money in the bank, for a certain amount of time, land, house, family, and a certain amount of livestock - all of which they hard and then some) and the interviewer didn't even look at the paperwork. He was more interested in asking me about my marriage to my husband. Then when they were denied they were mailed a denial letter, and they had to keep the denial letter until the next year when they could apply again. That is crazy.
As far as the laws to get a work permit, or be able to immigrate to this country, if you are on foreign soil it takes years and years to go through the immigration system. If you are on american soil, or have someone here to apply for you, then the process still takes years, but goes much quicker. If you are a poor person looking to come here to help your family survive, help them eat, and you have to go through all of that, and wait that long, then you start to see why coming here illegally seems like such a good idea. It is a way to save your mother, brother, wife, son, daughter from starving to death. And no, I am not for opening the border. I am all for tightening the border but making it a little bit easier for people to immigrate here. The people who need it, the poor people, it is super hard for them. If you are old, and/or rich it is so much easier to be able to get your papers. And those two groups of people are usually not the ones that need to come here.

Yes, the legal immigration process should definitely be easier, quicker and more straightforward. Right now, it takes up to TWO DECADES for an american citizen to reunite with his/her sibling or a married son or daughter, living abroad. It can take more than a year for a citizen that gets married abroad to bring the spouse here. And for legal residents, that aren't citizens, it takes 5-6 years or more.
This is just plain ridiculous.
As for those that do not have relatives... Well... it is not easy, but, if you are educated, and have marketable skills, you can do it.
Believe it or not, most other countries have even tougher policies.
Try immigrating to France or Spain, or even Canada - unless you belong to one of the "preference groups", it's next to impossible.

And, however hard it is to immigrate legally, it can't be used as an excuse for illegals. You don't advocate going around robbing banks, just because it is hard for some people to make lots of money working, do you? This is the same kind of argument

I think it should be easier AND more affordable for immigrants to come here legally. That would help cut back on how many folks come here illegally. We would have a much better idea about who is coming to this country, and border officials could concentrate on catching drug runners, thugs and terrorists instead of chasing down guys who only want to come here to work.

They have a sponsor so that when they come into this country they are not left hanging high and dry, and there is someone that can assist them with the assimilation into our society.

How can it get any easier? They're just walking across the border and living here scott free. How much easier do you want it? You want them to get paid for coming over??

I feel that you're a sympathizer, seeking to aid and abet people emigrating illegally to the United States. Mexico needs to support its' own people, and so do other countries. And, we need to have the border fence put in. And, our immigration laws need to be enforced. And, people in their communities need to think about this issue, and contact their representatives about it, and speak their views. Illegal immigration is a big problem, a nationwide problem, and a lot of serious thought needs to be put into how we're going to go in the future. Other countries need to fix their own economies, instead of trying to break our laws.

Im not sure if its easy, here in America, it's pretty easy for them Cubans to cross the border, until they get to Florida, there are a thousands possibly millions of illegal immigrants in America, I know this answer isn't resonable, but alot of the immigrants demand freedom.

We, like every other country, limit how many poor immigrants can come. That is because services like education and health care cost more than poor people pay in taxes. Each one is a net economic loss, and our school funds, and health care and other service funds have to 'stretch' to cover the additional people.

Because we are all descendants of immigrants, and admire legal immigrants who want to make a better life, we still do let some poor immigrants come. Many countries don't.

However, because that drains schools and health care, we limit it.

Immigrants should be allowed to work and live anywhere in this world. You have to remember that these people come here to work to escape being poor and it is western countries that keep their own countries poor because the huge interest payments on loans.

I think it should be easier for immigrants to come to this country, as long as they can support themselves and contribute to society. Having new, productive members only makes our society stronger.

Having new leeches at the public trough makes us weaker. That's why government handouts need to be made harder to get at the same time immigration is made easier to get.

Clarify, your original question said Immigrants, then later on you said Illegal Immigrants. You can't tell the difference or something?
