I just heard of a great remedy and it worked for me. Immediately when you feel a cold coming on take vitamin C. I took 1000mg every couple of hours and by that evening the dry, burning, cold coming on symptoms, were gone. I read this in prevention magazine and it said your body will sluff off what it doesn't need so it is not harmful.

Add some fresh chopped thyme, some lemon juice, some crushed garlic and ginger to your favourite tea and drink lots of it during the day.
Add some eucaliptus oil drops to plain tissue paper and inhale a few times a day.
