well your dad gave you the rules. To get a dog you must be responsible. I think that is a fair trade. A dog needs to be fed, walked, cleaned up after. It is time consuming. That is why your dad wants to make sure that you will take care of your pet. So when you think you can make that full time commitment, let him know.

As an adult with a golden retriever, let me tell you that owning a dog involves a lot of work. Perhaps you might walk a neighbor's or friend's dog on a daily basis for a while first to prove to yourself and your father that you are willing to spend time with and exercise a dog. Also, if you are expected to pay for it, keep in mind that vet bills and medications, food, and toys add up to a lot of money. Owning a dog can be great, just understand that it isn't all fun and games.

Well, I hope Dad doesn't get you a dog because if you have such a problem with caring for it that you come here to the WHOLE WORLD for help, then you are not responsible yet. Kiss him and thank him for being so smart! And besides, your other questions show how immature you are and that BOYS have come into the picture. YUCK! Don't they have cooties?

Your dad knows best and has probably had experience with pets and responsibility for pets..... Having a pet or pets is not just having them.. It requires a certain amount of responsibility. If you can PROVE to your dad that you will be totally responsible, he might change his mind.. but responsibility is the key

The best way to do this is to show your dad that you can be resposible. I read a book and a young girl tied a sholace to her rollerskate and took it for walks, feed it, groomed it, and so on. Also do alot of research on the internet on dogs and mabey make a powerpoint presentaion for him. Thats what i would do. Once you do get a dog try to adopt insetead of buy, beacause shelter pet die.

What should you do???? Your dad already told you what to do....be responsible!!! You must think of every way you can to prove this to him & THEN STICK WITH IT!! This responsibility continues, DAILY, throughout the dogs ENTIRE life. Think of ways to prove yourself: Chores, even things you're not asked to do, this will show him that you are really thinking this over.

Promise you'll be responsible for it and get one that's easy to take care of like a pekingese. They're like $300-$400 but they're worth it and easy to take care of.
