every operation has risks involved with, but if you're really interested you should consult with an orthopedist.

Tell me something ! Is there anything in this world that is without any risk? No. Talking of risk of any operation in general, it is same as (in fact better than) the chances of you having a road accident when you go out in the morning for work. I am serious!
Regarding specific risk with respect to your operation, it depends on the severity of Hallux valgus, indication for operation and the anatomy of your foot before operation.
If you are undergoing operation purely for cosmetic reason, then the risk is bit higher. However if you have a painful foot, which has affected the quality of your life, then the benefits are more than the risk and go for it.

Any surgery carries risks, especially surgery with general anaesthetic. Sometimes bunions can be surgically treated under a local anaesthetic.

Some consultation with your surgeon/doctor would be a good idea.
