Well, considering that it was only engineered to last 125-150,000 miles... and expected to see service for about 8-10 years before it was scrapped, and it has obviously dramatically exceeded both of those engineering estimates, I think that the price is Way too high for a 15 year old japanese econo-sport car. Any day the engine of transmission could die and this car would be scrapyard materiel. For $2,000 you can be driving late 90s early '00s in autos if you are willing to drive small Econobox cars... which apparently you are! 2,000 is exactly what I paid a DEALER for my '98 Ford Escort Wagon Last August with 123,000 miles on it. Near perfect condition. PLUS the newer cars have AIR BAGS, Crumple Zones, Anti-Lock Brakes... All the stuff that saves our lives in crashes when driving little cars.
The Prelude was an ok car for its day. They have gotten popular with the 'boy racer' crowd and for that reason command prices that are more than the inherrent value of the car SHOULD command.
I just looked it up on Edmunds.com and a 92 Prelude S in average condition with 200,000 miles on it is worth $821.00 private party sale in my zipcode (Omaha area) Dealer Retail is only about 1700.
If this is a real 'Friend' they should be giving you this car for about 800-1000 bucks and Praying that it lasts at least 6 months without a major repair so they dont have to hear you complain that your $1000.00 car broke and it will cost 1200 to fix it... and now I dont have anything... snif...
Personally, If I were in your shoes... I would pass on this 'Deal' from a friend and spend about $3,000 and buy a nice 01 Ford Focus or the like... Much better car in the long haul... and 10 times safer as well. Things break when they get old.. and this is already 15 years old... I think you can do better with a little shopping around at Ebay and AutoTrader.com Good Luck!

Too much, 500 and just because it is a friend. I have had bad experiences with friends' cars. Anyway it is too old, too many miles, but the tear and wear maybe bad.

Go to www.kbb.com and fill out the info and get a blue book pricing to see if he is asking to much. You need to know make, model, milage and a couple of other things. It is worth it.

New speakers can always taken out of a car when it goes bad. But for the paint? If its been well taken care of and you don't care about spending the money, go for it.

If it is as clean as you say, tell your friend I'll bid $2100. Seriously.
Hondas will run forever if they are taken care of. Did he dog it or race it? Spend a little money to have a mechanic check it out, just in case.

sounds like everything is in great condition. given the k's on it i wouldn't pay anymore.
makesure however there aren't any problems with the motor like if you notice any smoke or rattling sounds when u drive it. does it start ok when you turn the ignition?
sounds to me like a good price i wouldn't pay any higher.
