I sympathize totally. I was totally frantic when I couldn't find my cat. She wouldn't respond to my calls. I was running around the neighborhood like a mad woman.

In complete desperation I put can of white meat tuna in her bowl, put the bowl by the door she mostly likely went out and left the door wide open. 20 minutes later she sashayed in like nothing was wrong and started eating the tuna. Cats have a real strong sense of smell.

If your cat has a favorite 'treat' food with a strong smell this may work. Good luck.

The tuna (treat) trick will work even if she is trapped somewhere in your house. She will make a racket trying to get to the bowl.

OK. First, put up fliers with your kitty's picture, your phone #, and what he responds to. (His name or nickname). Then, call your animal shelter, or run down there to see if he's there. Then, just look around your house, in every place possible. Closets, under the bed, backyard, pantries, etc. If he's still missing, get together with a couple of your friend and search the neighborhoods, and even drive around town looking for him. Also ask your neighbors for some help. Then, if he's still missing after about a day or two, considering putting an ad in your local newspaper. Get all the help you can. and, just to make you feel a little better, one time, my cat, sasha, disappeard, and i was soooo worried, and i looked EVERYWHERE for her, and when i came home, she was just in the back yard. I'm really sorry, because i'm a cat lover, and i hope you find him and he's OK. Best of luck!

First off, take a deep breathe. Being a wreck won't help bring kitty home. Secondly, call and stop by your local animal shelter to see if anyone has taken him there. They usually have you fill out a form that will list your cat as missing, should anyone bring him in they'll be able to realize that he's yours. Also, if you have a picture of your kitty, try putting together a poster/flyer and offer a small reward for his return. Make a bunch of them and distribute them around the neighborhood. Lastly, don't worry. He may just be out exploring and once he gets hungry enough he may very well come home on his own.

Most cats will return to where the food is. Keep his bowls filled with food and water and he will prob return soon. If he is outside cat (which I truly hate because there is no reason for cats to be outside cats), he may be being fed by someone else, but dont worry. He'll come back!

Also, check all cabinets and closets - anything with a door or hole or crack. My cat went missing and I couldnt find him anywhere. I began to think my boyfriend who hated him did something... Then he just appeared out of no where. After stalking the cat for a little, I found out he would open the bathroom sink cabinets with his paw and hang out under there for a while. Good Luck, honey.

How did your cat get out? Is he fixed?

I'll give you some links to tips that the Humane Society recommends following. And if he comes back, make sure to keep him inside from now on. There's no reason to have him outside at all and risk this kind of scare (or worse) again.

Good luck to you and I truly hope that you find him safe and healthy.

Edit: Remember that declawed cats should NEVER be let outside. They are unable to protect themselves. If he is regularly let out and he finds his way home, this needs to be changed ASAP. Talk to your vet about it as they will tell you that cat + no claws = indoor cat. Anyway, again, I wish you nothing but success in finding your cat.

Firstly let me say how sorry I am to hear about your cat. If he is an indoor cat and isnt familiar with the outside then he could be five feet from your front door and you wouldnt know.

His instinct will be to find someplace safe, usually off the ground, and stay there quietly. Cats dont run away they are territorial animals and stay in their comfort zones (which for feral cats can be extensive but are still territorial).

Here are some links I used when I thought I had lost one of mine, who as it turns out loves to sleep half way up an avocado tree of my neighbors.

My advice, look EVERYWHERE...even tiny little spaces you would never think he could get into.

Ok. first you need to calm down. Your cat is probably just out exploring and will be back soon. I have 2 indoor cats who like to sneak out and they always come back in a few hours. If you haven't seen the cat by tomorrow I'd start asking the neighbors and putting up signs, also call your local animal shelter, maybe they will have him.

I am always very sad to hear about a pet vanishing... I do not know if your kitty was an indoor cat or outside/inside. I have told everyone many times.. anytime that a cat is outside.. that is, an outside/inside cat, it will disapppear eventually because it will have been killed by a car... catnapped.. and many many are killed by coyotes, etc if you live in the Southwest..In fact, most of the cats are killed by coyotes that approach housing areas. Sometimes it helps to put up posters on light posts, etc. I hope that you get the kitty back because I am sure it is lonely without you.

Well, walk around your neighborhood and put up flyers, ask people if they saw your cat. Don't worry too much , If you love your cat then he loves you back too! He'll come back, maybe he just wanted to see what's going on outside. But it's really a good thing that he's neutered.

Hope that helped

has he been out before? does he have claws? If he's been out before, he'll more than likely be back. If he has claws, he has a better chance of defending himself if he gets into a tussle.

Try putting out a small can of moist cat food and call to him, then wait behind a door to see if he comes back.

Good luck
