Absolutely, Wado Ryu is an Okinawan Martial Art, which has inherited the Japanese mantle. it's similar to the hard/soft style Goju Ryu.

Any Martial Art or Modern Combat Art you study is a good discipline.

Just as Jerry L said, watch out for these guys that have a made up type Martial art, check for any national or world affiliations they may have, if they don't it's a good bet that they're not a certified instructor or blackbelt in that discipline.

also you'll wanna watch out for the instructors that'll try to sell you on the fact that they can get you your blackbelt in 3-5 years, they're often called "belt factory schools" they often have a lot of turn over of students because they go through them quickly.

All martial arts are good to study (except the made up ones where people are just trying to rip you off). It matters if you are interested in studying Wado Ryu. It is an Okinawan style of karate and if that is what interests you then have fun. I studied Goju Ryu for many years until my instructor moved and had a lot of fun and kept in great shape.

Uh, just one correction to the above posts. Wado Ryu is not an Okinawan style. It was one of the first karate styles to be developed in Japan. In fact the "wa" of "Wado" refers to Japan. You can look it up.

As for whether or not it is a good style, well, it is a good style if you learn it from a good teacher.
