I dropped my camera from about 18 inches onto a wooden floor an now the lens will not open. I can't believe that such an accident should disable a "rugged" (Sony's description) camera. Any ideas for self repair / troubleshoot / or an independent repairer. (Sony charge £115 fixed fee regardless of the repair)

I certainly wouldn't attempt a self repair due to the amount of small and delicate parts within. The ruggedness may only apply to the outer casing and not the internals. Besides, if you did manage to 'fix' the lens, it might still require setting up! If you take it back to the shop and say it stopped working (as paulrb8 suggests), when its on the bench the techie's will know its been dropped so you'll probably end up paying anyway!

i do no longer understand your question. So purchase a $one hundred- Canon or Fuji digital camera and take a image of your 5 mo old. in user-friendly terms you may understand in case you've gotten adequate money a digital camera with SSI. you probably did write 5 mo old no longer 5 year old.

hey, its under warranty as only five months old... take it back to the shop and say "its stopped working" they wont know....
and as to dropping from 18 inches high... its the equivalent to dropping a car off Big Ben.......
