Coyotes do not do this.

Sick people do. This would not hide a gunshot injury that would have killed the dog.

If the dog did not have it's reproductive organs removed, it was not done by researchers testing for radiation or chemical exposure.

It was just some stupid mean kids.

I am so sorry for your friend, but have them make a police report.

Good luck.

I've actually seen coyotes do this kind of thing before. It's a territorial killing, not for food. They'll bite at the throat and shake... hard. For a small dog, it could rip the skin right off. You should see at least some type of injury, particularly to the neck/throat. But if all they bit into was the skin, you may see nothing. Check the incision from the skin that remains around the head. Look close. If the skin appears torn, or irregular from the remains around the head... good odds it's coyotes. If it's a clean, precise cut.. I'd suspect foul play.

No coyotes did not do this and the dog was not shot.It was probably skinned alive unless it's neck was broken. There's a sick bast@rd running around your area that needs to be dealt with IMMEDIATELY!
We had similar cases in this area a few years back.Dogs and horses were targeted mainly but a couple of cats were also found.
Horses and a couple of large dogs were found with penises removed and left to bleed to death.
Other smaller dogs were skinned alive.
I apologize for being so blunt. The news articles made me physically ill for weeks and just as I was recovering another would come out.And just writing this is making my stomach churn. However,I feel that by being blunt it might impress upon others that leaving the dog or cat out at night might have these consequences.People should have more of a care for their animals welfare.Evan if they're surrounded by a fence and on a chain or in a kennel.THEY ARE NOT SAFE!!!!!!!!Bring them in and KEEP THEM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coyotes don't skin an animal whole and usually don't leave the carcass intact, either. Sounds like it might be the work of a local cult or some whackos who like to torture animals.

Call the police and tell them what's happened. If they have a unit that investigates cult activity, they may be very interested in this. Also notify your local Humane Society and see if they're able to get involved by posting alerts, etc. in their newsletter and the local media.

I'm sorry about your friend's dog, but getting the police involved might save someone else's pet.

A few years back there was a mystery about cattle being found in the same condition. To trap the culprit, the sheriff set up cameras and deputies when they found a dead could to find out who was skinning them.

They discovered that the body would swell up because the bateria in the body would produces gas and it would split the skin.

The split skin, once detached from the muscle would skin in size and the animal would appeared skinned.

Well, if it was coyotes, they'd have eaten the body a little bit. I'd say report it to the local police and see if they've heard any other cases of this happening to other animals.

It sounds suspicious to me.

I'm sorry about your friend's dog. That's really sad.
