I was terribly depressed in College, it was culmination of a bunch things all from my childhood finally settling in on me. My father died when I was 8 years old, my mother went to prison a year later for mail fraud then I was shipped off to live with my alcoholic grandmother who was a big fan of hitting me with tree limbs, belts and extension cords. Anyway, when it was happening I was so young I didn't really process it. I was like numb but in College suddenly all the weight of those feelings just crashed down on me like ton of bricks and I spent of year not being about sleep, hallucinating and having crying jags. Finally I had to take antidepressants for a short time (like 2 months) and go to therapy twice a week. I also wrote a lot of short stories to work through my feelings and I started running which really helped me to sleep and even out my moods.

My wife has struggled with depression on and off throughout most of her adult life. Go see a psychiatrist. Perhaps a therapist as well. You may have to try more than one of each. It took my wife 3 times to find a good psychiatrist. It took a few different attempts at medication to get the right ones.
Also, I suggest you need to keep yourself busy with things you enjoy. Do you have any hobbies you like? Maybe something simple like getting together with friends or family and playing some board games. Idle depressed people just sit around and mope and make it worse.
Depression is hard. I hope you get better, whatever the answer is. Good luck.

Type the word ‘depression’ in the Question Box above, and you will find there are more than 7,500 results.
Perhaps if you read through some of those questions and responses, you may find the answers you are looking for.
I think the initial step is for you to determine the cause of your depression…
If you haven’t already done so, I suggest you make an appointment to see a doctor, and discuss the matter of your depression with him/her.
Depression is not something you have to face ‘alone’…
There are many ‘Depression Support Groups’ who can work with you to overcome the problem.
Check out the following link, and see what help is available for you…

Your doctor should also be able to tell you what help is available in your area.
Good luck… I wish you well !!!

Go see your physician and thell him/her exactly how you have been feeling. Depression that last a long time and keeps getting worse is a medical problem with a medical solution.
Usually antidepressant medication will help over come clinical depression. Excercise also helps and does activity. In some cases your physician may refer you to a trained counselor for assitance but normally medication and lifestyle will work just fine.
Go see your physician soon. Help is there but you have to ask for it. Remember depression is now universally recognized as a medical problem and there is no reason not to seek treatment for depression than seeking treatment for any other medical problem

Talk to a professional - your doctor or a counsellor. Your doctor may recommend some medication that you can try. Depression is more common than you may think, and I know of several people (close friends and family) who have been helped by different medications. You may need to try a couple before you find what works for you though.
And medication isn't the only answer - counselling is useful as well.

I have had depression for 9 years, and you can't just get over it, it quite often takes long term counseling with a combination of that and medication. Was there something that made you start feeling depressed?
The best advice I can give you is to go and see your doctor.

It is funny sometimes.. I have been depressed before. I had heard someone say that thier doctor told them to be in the sun. Depression comes from being lonely and in the dark the winter.. So go tanning in the winter. Sit outside in the summer. Get some sun. It actually works..

Write all your feelings down - in a journal or a notebook or whatever. That way they are off your chest and into the book. After you write it down, try to think of 3 things that you could be happy/grateful for that day. Write those down too. Eventually you will start to see things in a better light.
