Adam and Eve. Noah's Ark. Jonah and the Gulper Eel.

Really folks, how can you possibly believe these stories???

You do realize these are only stories, don't you? Or have you really been THAT misled, and that brainwashed?

Please, in your own words, tell me how you can believe this.

If you give me copy and paste or quote scripture at me, I won't read it.

Surely you are able to argue on your own behalf.

My problem with Adam and Eve is that they suddenly appeared and lived for 100's of years.

After much thought, I have not been able to convince myself that it is logical to believe that the universe and all it contains poofed into existence all on it's own. It doesn't seem logical to suppose that life, with all of it's intricacies, developed all by itself. It makes much more sense to me to believe that life, the universe, and everything, was created.
Which means there must be a Creator. The question then becomes, what sort of a Being would create the cosmos?
And why?
I can't answer that, but I believe that there must be only One Supreme God, and that He would want to interact with His creation....
There has been religion ever since there have been people advanced enough to worship...I believe that they have been reaching out for the God they instinctively know is there...I believe that, at one time, everyone knew this God, but that, as time passed and people spread out, the stories got a bit garbled. I think the Adam and Eve story is what we think of as a parable...a story told to make a point. If you think about it, "fruit" in the Bible is what our personalities produce...patience, honesty, etc...or greed and selfishness...good, or evil? Yes, and I do think "evil" came from another source...temptation.
I don't understand why anyone has a problem with the notion of a worldwide flood...there are enough stories and legends to back it up, something happened, who knows how many eons ago? Perhaps, the story of Atlantis is real!
I really don't have any problem believing in the story of Jonah, either, although I think the "fish" is supposed to be a whale...not that it matters, the point is, once you accept a God powerful enough to create all that exists from nothing, what right do you or anyone else have to limit Him as to what He can or cannot do?
Can you explain to me how it is that energy can not be destroyed, but only change it's form? Isn't your life "energy"?
I think my question for you is...how can you NOT believe in God? Are you really THAT brainwashed? Think you're too "intelligent" for all that, do you?
Of course....

I believe because I HAVE HAD a real encounter with the Living God. I grew up in the church since the time I was born until now. I had some wavering years, years I didn't really know what to believe then I came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ for real, he changed my life, he put me on a new path and now I want to spend everyday of my life serving him. You said no scripture, so I won't give you any. But I am able to believe in the things you mentioned because they are in the Bible and I believe through my own research that the Bible is the infalible Word of the Most High Living God.
If you won't read scripture to find your answers, please pick up a copy of "The Case for Christ" written by Lee Strobel If will rock your world, and you won't look at Christianity thte same.

I come from a very religious background, I rebelled, and so I hate organized religion. I call myself a christian spiritualist, a term I found in a book called Blue Like Jazz. In my very short life I have been sexually abused, beaten and outcast for various reasons. Life has been so hard that at one point I was suicidal. My belief is not dependant on the bible, I learned a long time ago that not all questions are answerable, my belief is based on my hope. My hope that I am not an accident, that the events that happened in my life have purpose, that life in its own right has purpose. To take God away from life is to cut life off completely. From my experiences I have grown. Currently I am a nurse. I spend half my time working with seniors, and half of it working with young women who have been traumatized. I take the bible for what it is, I accept it just as I have had to accept so many other things in life that I cannot change or make logical. My belief gives things meaning. The love I have for these people and the joy I see in their eyes when I am there for them without these beliefs are meaningless. I choose to believe in more.

By faith I believe..... I believe because of the miracles Jesus performed that he is who he said he is.....I believe the Bible is God's word by faith...... How many times over the years has science been proven wrong?....... At one time the scientists of the earth believed the world was flat.... But the Bible makes reference to the earth being round.....The day will come when the truth of the bible will be revealed to every single man on earth..... Either men will accept Jesus in this life as their Savior or in the next life as their Judge..... My friend, please read the gospel of John with an open mind....It was written by the eyewitness account of the disciple John..... Why would 11 of the 12 disciples be willing to face a horrible death for telling a lie?..... My friend there is truth in the words of the bible.... Please view Jesus Christ with an open mind... Read the Gospel of John, then see if you can make "critical " commentary..... I am not saying that you will not still be an atheist..... But at least you would have given the bible a chance.....

I believe the Bible is true. I would rather live like it was true, and be wrong in the end. Then live like it was false, and suffer for it in the end. I believe there is a heaven and hell. I would more than anything go to heaven, and serve God. Why do you not believe the Bible stories are true. The are true stories, and a love letter from God to us. When He wrote the 10 commandments it wasn't to hurt us, but for us to stop hurting ourselves. Please search out the book of John. God bless you.

To address all of them fully would require a book!

(1) Ok, you don't like that fact that they appered and lived for 100's of years.

Well. #1 I don't believe they "just appeared"

I believe that through a process of something like evolution (but not quite the same thing) "humans" came to exist on the earth.

But they lacked a "soul" or a "consciousness" if you will...I believe that when God "breathed" into Adam and he received a soul, or in Hebrew "neshama". This is in line with ancient hebrew interpretation of the text.

As for them living for hundreads of years:

(1) According to science it is more of a mystery why we die at all.
(2) An event such as a global flood could drastically reduce the average life-span
(3) ancient texts (such as the Sumerian king list) also record people liveing hundreads of years...

(2) Noah's Ark. Again, I fail to see your problem, prehaps you could be specific, you don't believe in a worldwide flood? Why not?

(3)Jonah and the Whale. It's called a miricale, If you accept the Bilbe as True (And I believe there are logical reasons to do so) then it is not hard to accept this.

I have personally researched Christianity, If I didn't believe there was good reasons to believe it I would be agnostic.

If you email me, I will try to answer any of your questions in more detail.

I did until I began to think for myself. The stories are just that, stories. It's like a legend or myth. If people believe the Bible, then they probably think Arthur was real too.

dude the Bible had been proven so many times that it is incredible. i don't know how people can believe anything BUT the Bible. if you knew anything then you would see how lost and confused you are. you are the one that has been brainwashed with your own self. probably the reason that you don't love God is because you love yourself and your sin so much that there is no more room for anything else. I'm not saying that Christians are perfect, but we do have a peace in us because we know where we are going when we die. we all sin, but Jesus forgives us if we ask Him to.

When you realize that the universe once did not exist, and then it existed, you become just a little persuaded that God is mighty.

A story about two people he created living in his garden seems entirely plausible when you realize that he created people and he created plants and he created light and he created planets and he created water....

Understand?

If you don't stand in awe at God's work, you continue to use your dim and limited perspective to try and understand things that just don't make sense to your own little brain.

Seek a bigger, higher mind. That is, ask God to reveal things to you. He will if you ask him in humility and earnestness.

What else do we want to believe?

a) That we are a product of random occurrence...of evolution...accidents.

or

b) That we are made by an intelligent BEING. That we are created according to HIS purpose.

Yes maybe I am brainwashed. That is that my brain is clean enough to understand the purpose of creation.
