The best thing about the R.C. Church is the beautiful art work in the churches and the rich tradition. The worst thing is the self-righteous guilt that they heap on you from the time you're a little kid. You grow up in complete fear, thinking you're a sinner doomed to hell no matter what you do. For this reason, I no longer participate.
I don't know what transubstantiation is. I must have been asleep in CCD when they taught that subject!

Since you asked this of Catholics -- here's my answer:
BEST:
- participating fully in the mass -- remembering that Jesus is my Saviour and all He did for me.
- the kinship that exists in my parish
- the amazing feeling that, no matter what - God is always with me
- the beauty of connectivity - knowing that my grandparents sat in the same seats and we praised Christ in the same way (even when i was out of the country in our "homeland" just to know my busia who i never knew prayed in this same church - fell to her knees to worship the Lord in the same spot - it was something)
- the clegry & nuns - they are awesome - i've know some that you think -- there IS a man/woman of God.
- respect for Mary. some other denominations just slough Her off. I don't understand. Had God not meant Her to be a part of HisStory then why not just let Jesus come on down when He was needed. God had a different reason and Mary was His choice for His only Son. She was the first true Christian - she gave herself fully to God for the Son.
- bible study - for all ages
- the various parish activities and councils, soup kitchen, Life Teen, CYO (various youth camps) oh all the great activities.
the worst:
- the guilt - before i really believed or understood i just went along with the crowd, confessed and it really didn't matter - however now that i fully understand - the guilt and confessing my sins is hard. it's my own fault though -no sins = nothing to confes ; )
- the ingorance about the Rcc. too often people say - they worship idols or Mary or whatnot - they are wrong about that and so many other things.
- being judged by other Christians - that's God's job.
- following the rules -- they are the same rules that every Christian follows but with some the Rcc is more strict -it's okay though - the stronger the rules, the quicker until you win the game.
- the bad priests - they are vile and i know that they hurt people
- the zealots who put anything before God & Jesus
- those that claim to be of the Rcc yet do not understand or accept the principles, doctrine or (worst of all) Christ as their Saviour.
I'm sorry you had to wad through the asnwers from others who were not Rcc. I hope you have found enough real answers to your question.
God Bless
YSIC

Yes I believe in transubstantiation it is a matter of faith and faith is believing in something you can not see. I may not understand but I believe.
The best part of the Roman Catholic Church is the charity they show to those less fortunate. The worst part are the close minded people who see things in black and white and are not open to peoples differences. There is too much judging of other people. More should be offered for young adults to get them involved in the church.

The best things about the Catholic Church:
The Literal Presence Of Christ In the Blessed Sacrament(Holy Eucharist); The Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Holy Mother; The Sacrament of Confession.
The worst thing about the Catholic Church: the sex scandals which have come up in recent years. Even though it is only a small percentage of priests around the world which have committed these horrible crimes against children(these sickos have driven these poor children away from this wonderful Church!!!:-( ), they have done a considerable amount of damage to the reputation to the rest of the priests & to the Church itself, as a whole!

As a Roman catholic the best are the sacraments they are vary important in our beliefs, we believe vary strongly in transubstantiation, receiving the body and blood of Christ nourishes our spirit which is the same substance of Christ, the worst thing about the church is it's denial of human nature which I believe has brought about sexual abuse by our priests, they have become politically religious rather than remaining spiritually focused, that's my opinion any way.

the best thing is that i feel at peace when in service. and the fact that it is the universal church which thanks to IT, christianity exists TODAY.
the worst is those MF priests who give catholicism a bad name. coupled by the fact that those outside the church will judge it by their actions, forgetting the aforementioned fact about it's history.
regarding transubstantiation: we'll it's a part of the faith i accept, believing is another thing.

You do know that this question, most likely, won't be taken seriously, right? Most of your answers will be critics of the church spewing their hatred of the Catholic church... or is that what you want?

confessing your sins to another "mere" man. I disagree with that. I believe that when Jesus died on the cross he died and became a mediator and I don't have to confess my sins to my priest. I should be able to pray to Jesus and that's it! I have read my Bible and it says to confess your sins to Jesus. Noone where does it say to go confess to a Priest! NOWHERE! I Left the Church and glad of it! I found it to be the WRONG faith for me! Read the Bible, NOT THE CATHOLIC CATECHISM! It will steer you wrong.
The best thing is "leaving"! I hate the church!!!!
