I am doing a project on bugs from the Insecta Phylum, or some thing like that, and I need a good website to find scientific names, orders, etc.

I primarily work with aquatic insects, but below are some links to several websites I've found extremely helpful.

The first, Ephemeroptera Galactica, is one of the best sites I have ever found for research papers, identification keys, taxonomy, etc. It's online liberary is for the most part limited to mayflies (Order Ephemeroptera), but there are some papers with information on other insects and related invertebrates (Stoneflies, crayfish, etc). You will need a PDF reader (like ADOBE) to open most of the files however.

There are some other pages on the FAMU website, specific to Florida bugs. Some of the keys (Trichoptera, Plecoptera, and Megaloptera) are pretty good for identification purposes, but you'll need a dissecting scope with excellent magnification and a light source.

The third website is posted by the Soil and Water Conservation Society of Metro Halifax Nova Scotia. It has lots of general information on many different groups of freshwater invertebrates.

These'll get you started, at least with Aquatic insects. They certainly have proven helpful in my own studies. Unless by "Bugs", you mean you want information on the Order Hemiptera (True Bugs)? Many non-entomologists use the term Bug as a general term - but in truth not all insects are bugs.
