You get a dipoloma by keeping a transcript of courses you are taking as well as hours, along with a portfolio to show your work. A homeschool diploma from your home is just as good as a high school diploma. Find out what your state graduation requirements are and find out how many hours you need to equal one credit. For instance, say you need 4 credits in English in order to graduate and 180 hours = 1 credit...that is about an hour of day of English for 180 days which is the length of most school years. Do that for 4 years and you have your credits. It really is as simple as that. :-)
You DO NOT need to get a GED, nor does your diploma need to be accredited. Check with your state also and see if you are offered an opportunity to dual enroll. Here in Florida dual enrollment is FREE and you receive both credits for college and highschool. Here, all a 16 year old needs to do is take a placement test and pay for their books, that is it. Many schools offer dual enrollment online as well.
Please, do not accept any misinformation, check the facts. Homeschooling has been going on now for decades with tons of parents having issued diplomas from home. Just in case, here are some links for you:

Yes you do get your highschool diploma, you just have to make sure you're doing your homeschooling through an acredited program though. I'm homeschooled, i'm doing it through allied national highschool, it's a great program and you get a REAL highschool diploma, not some GED. First figure out what program you want to do it through, and make sure they have what you need.

The home schooling program should offer a high school diploma course. I go through Penn Foster also known as Education Direct. They have a great diploma(high school) program. It's only $5 down and $40 per month. I hope this helped. Good luck with your studies.

OK, "diploma" is Greek for "piece of paper!"
So, contact the supply house that private schools use, for goodness sake, and get
that piece of paper!
I always buy them for my homeschool graduates, and I have three so far. The
company even fills out the names, the name of your school (or just "home school" and leaves
blanks, if you want for the principal (your dad) and teacher (your mom) to sign.
We have big ceremonies where we hand these out to all the graduates from homeschool--and
yes, you can simply graduate from homeschool!
Think it through: you are a student in a very small, private school--homeschool! Your parents are the administrators/teachers.
Voila!
You can also go to www.hslda.org and contact your state organization. Many have state homeschool graduations with special speakers, music, etc.---or you can plan your own.

You must go to a high school to get a diploma. A GED is supposed to be just as good, however, it is looked at as a step below a diploma. Check with a local high school to see what the requirements are.
