Its gone soft , its a joke and how can anyone have faith in a system which doesn't protect victims only criminals.I think minimum sentences should be applied for paedophiles ,rapists and murderers and they should have to stick to them..the punishment must fit the crime.Tagging and asbos dont seem to be working and people need to start taking responsibility for there own actions. What happened to respect in this country?

Criminal law protects the minority, it is the biggest joke ever. Soft sentancing due to overcrowding and budget, The law is effectively the back bone of the nation and if that is weak than the country will deteriorate. How with a previous conviction for the same crime can some one charged again with Grevious bodily harm get a 12 month suspended sentance and court costs. How can murderers get less than a life sentance which we all see. The statistics that are published are a smoke screen to the true reported and in turn dismised figures, the majority of reported petty crimes to the police do not even warrant a report let alone a call out, due to the fact the paper work involved for all the crimes would be overwhelming sewing the seed for greater crimes. If the real figures where to be published properly the country would uprise and the government would lose grip on order and control.

It's not necessarily fair, but partly as a result of todays politically correct, and do-gooder society. We all have our own opinions and more so if we have been affected by crime at all, but we now live in a society where people advertise and get paid lots of money to find loop-holes in the system or ways round it.

I suppose because of political correctness, is the reason why such as the CPS won't take on board cases, unless they are certain that their is a sound case to answer and one that can be won.

Removing the good old days of the 'bobby' on the beat ( deterring/preventing crime) have gone and unlikely to return.

People sueing each other with 'no win no fee laywers' for things that would have gone by the way side in the passed and lots of others.

At least our justice system is a lot more civilised than some around the world, but will we ever deter the harden criminal, no of course we won't, and always locking them up doesn't serve a usefully purpose in monetary terms either.

That's today's society - we've made it what it is!

Of course it is not fair. We have moved the scales to far in defence of the rights of criminals and away from the protection of society.
I often wonder how the lawyers that get rapists, paedophiles, etc. off on technicalities sleep at night. have they no consciences, or does the money make it all worthwhile. What we need is more justice and less law.

Its a joke. Its not tough enough.

A life sentence is not life

most people get let out early

some prisoners get tv, gyms and training for jobs..out of our hard earned money

a house burglar has more rights than the home owner

even the police force can be mad (gloucestershire police article this week)

Look up the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 and you will see why it is so difficult for police to do their job. The Police are doing their job but are being let down by senior management as well as the courts

It's a joke - The crimminals know and use all the loop holes, genuine honest law abbidng people are arrested by the police. If you are ever proven guilty of a crime you do minimum time inside and will probably get your conviction quashed on a proceedural technicality.

chav steals car.no tax. no insurance. no licence. knocks over pedestrian. police catch him. he gets a few hours community service (which he doesn't do) and a £200 fine.

person riding bicycle without a bell attached to the handlebars can now get fined a couple of grand.

i can say with confidence we have the best judicial system in the world.

IT A TOTAL JOKE . I THINK THAT MOST JUDGES ARE GOING CRAZY. YOU COULD DO A CRIME IN THIS COUNTRY AND GET OFF WITH JUST A RAP ON THE HAND. I THINK THAT WE SHOULD BRING BACK CORPORAL PUNISHMENT FOR PEOPLE LIKE ROSEMARY WEST, MIRA HINDLY AND OTHER PEOPLE WHERE IT WAS WITHOUT DOUBT THAT THEY DID THE CRIME.
