I live in Pittsburgh,PA. what will happen to my son if I let this go and he exercises and stays healthy. Does any one have scoliosis that I can talk to that has had an operation or has let it go. his back bothers him but he said if this is the worst pain he will try to avoid an operation but he is only 21 years old. I really don't know what to do. I pray for a Miricle! help

go to www.idealspine.com to find a Chiropractor that can possibly help your son. Surgery is permanent, try Chiropractic first.

My daughter had the surgery 2 yrs ago. She is sixteen now. Her curve was @ 45 degrees. Her doctor said that if it was left untreated then later in life her organs would be compromised due to the curve in her spine. Her breathing before the surgery was labored but now she is fine.. No exercise or diet can stop the curving. It will get worse with time. The school nurse found my daughter's at 8yrs old. She wore a brace for 6 years and that slowed it down but didn't stop it which is why we opted for the surgery. She is better off health wise and her self esteem is through the roof now. I seriously suggest finding a good doctor or maybe his doctor now can recommend someone. Good Luck!! If need more info or just want to talk to a mom who has been through this get your email address to me somehow and I'll gladly do what I can to help.

I had scoliosis surgery when i was 15, about three years ago. My curve got to a 52 degree curve. I looked like i was ready to snap. Your son should have surgery. The sooner the better. Scoliosis will only get worse if he waits. My docter says the curve will grow about a degree every year if it was not treated. I dont know any docters in PA b/c I had my surgery in Nashville, TN.

The best orthopedic hospital is the Shriner's Hospital, located in Philadelphia. They are experts in the field and if your son was under 18 years of age, he could have been treated free of charge. I don't know if they will even see him since he is over 18. The Shriners also have burn unit hospitals and treat thousands of children each year at their hospitals (burn and orthopedic) at no cost to the patient or parents. Check with your local Shrine center to see if they can see him or call the Phidelphia hospital, I am sure they can steer you in the right direction.

Go to Wedmd.com , click on health care services at the top of the page, it has a "find a doctor" page, where you can look for docs.. Hopefully this helps.
