I agree with the sex obsessed and cell phone obsessed. Cell phones have taken over peoples private lives. People use their phones during meals with their family, in public restrooms, elevators, and while driving. It is inconceivable how they made it with just a land line.
Sex? Very much so. It makes the world go round, doesn't it? It's everywhere you look. Even on the news.
Sex obsession is a totally different world and not a very pretty one. Sex addicts are becoming more numerous with each passing day, with the help of pornography. Porn does not CAUSE people to be sex addicts, but it definitely pushes an already weak person in that direction. Sexual addiction is very serious and damaging
to all who fall into that downward sprial.
God obsessed? We should all be so lucky!

Anything that makes whatever you percieve as a mundane existance to disappear has the power to become an obsession. The drug addict obsesses over drugs; the alcoholic-booze; obese people- food. Why not obsess over God? It really doesn't matter what the symptom is, the problem is the obsession. Compulsive hand washers will wash the skin off their hands. So people ask what wrong with washing your hands? Nothing, as long as you're doing it in a healthy manner. And its the same with everything else. Now, in America, we presently live in a culture that tells us " if a little feels good, then why not GO FOR IT" After all, this is the land of the free, right? I also realize that since you, the asker of this question, doesn't believe in Christianity, you are more apt to be irritated everytime you hear word Jesus and since they seem to be quite vocal at times, you may think that they are obsessed. While that may be quite true in some cases, I believe most are like the little boy whistling in the dark, Scared s***less and willing to follow anybody who says they know the way back home. Fact is though, anybody who has actually done the work of self realization usually are less teachers than doers. part of the work is exploring those things that we get obsessed over and get to the root of the problem, which usually turns out to be deep seated fear. And guess what, that is what is marketed to America so we buy more stuff to make us feel good. Hamster on the wheel?

Americans are obsessed with everything, I'm really not sure why that is. We want all the answers, want everything nownownow, and we don't stop to take the time to enjoy what we already have, which I believe is what God has provided for us. I got rid of my cell phone over a year ago, and I don't regret it for one bit, I need solace sometimes, and with a cell phone, I didn't have that. I prefer to be in a quiet place somewhere in the mountains or near the ocean where I can really think and talk with God, rather than the bustle of everyday life.

I'm an American and I'm not God obsessed but I love that energy. I don't own a cell phone so I'm not cell phone obsessed. I love sex and I will admit to being sex obsessed. I'm not sure that it's where we live or the society around us as much as it is personal choice. My 10yr old daughter recently asked if she could cover her hair like the Muslim girls do. There is only one Muslim in her class and that's a boy.So she isn't exposed to that. She could have come to me and asked to wear the pants with words like "Dangerous" "Playful" or whatever on the azz like all the girls around her. She didn't get caught up in what the environment around her showed. She made a personal choice to want something that appealed to her. No clue why it appealed to her.She won't be doing either of those things but it is interesting how we always want to blame society and the environment we live in for personal choices.

Our country was founded on two things - puritanical values and violence.
Because our society is puritanical, we are actually NOT obsessed with sex. this is why J Jacksons nipple during the superbowl raised such a stink (personally, the only problem I had with it was that it was a nasty looking nipple...yuck!) And, this is why we have the highest per capita rape rate than any other industrialized nation on earth. This is also why we are so God obsessed.... And it is also why you can go to the movie and watch Uma Thurman hack off 100 men's arms and legs in Kill Bill II, but lets see you find a movie showing as litttle as some pubic hair - not parts, just hair. You WILL NOT find one....

And if you think we are cell phone obsessed, go to Japan. They buy new phones every three months!!

Well I think God obsession comes from the fact that so many people try to find their answers there. Sex, well that is a natural human drive and society has found ways of restricting it and thus making the obsession go to both ends of the spectrum.

Cells phones... no clue... I don't own one.

I am not sure I know what you mean by the first one, but we are way too sex obsessed- it is ridiculous, especially if you go to some countries in Europe and see that they have a much more natural and comfortable view of what is sexy. I don't know how to explain the difference. And don't you think cell phones are overused in public so people can appear to be popular?

I'm not sure. Seems like if we have it, we have to obsess over it. Have you noticed though, that the 2 taboo's used to be Death and Sex... but now they are Politics and Religion? The description though is basically the same. If someone isn't dying, they're getting screwed.

If you think America is cell phone obsessed, how long has it been since you have been to Europe?
