My ex used to say hi to me on msn but he stopped that until now, months later. I put "packing for Western" on my msn quote and he thought I was changing universities so he started to talk to me. Why is he still curious? I mean we only dated for one month, it was sweet and innocent (never went past kissing) and he ended it 8 months ago, so why would he still even care?

By the way we go to the same university, so maybe when I put that quote up on msn, he was thinking that I was changing schools.

Nah, you're being a typical female: reading to much into the context of a guy's actions. Just ask him how his love life is doing. If he says he's alone and then asks you out, chances are, he still has a school boy's crush on you. Otherwise, he still appreciates your friendship.
Either way, it seems like you're a cute person and he wants you as a part of his life in any way that he can have it work.

Because he wants to keep you near as a "break glass in case of emergency" girl. He wants to keep you as an option, should others not work out. He's taking you for granted.
