From the National Institutes of Health (NIH):
"The symptoms from the most common types of food poisoning generally start within 2 to 6 hours of eating the food responsible. That time may be longer (even a number of days) or shorter, depending on the toxin or organism responsible for the food poisoning."

Depends on the foodborne illness.
Bacterial toxins (like the toxins produced by C. botulinum or C. perfringens) can take from 3 to 12 hours to set in, and they can cause either vomiting or diarrhea, but without fevers.
Bacterial infections (like Salmonella an E. Coli) take longer, usually 1 to 3 days till onset. These casue FEVERS, diarrhea and vomiting.
Viral infections transmitted through food (such as norovirus aka stomach flu) can take from 12 to 72 hours to start. Fevers may be present and are usually low.

That can vary depending on what kind of food poisoning. I got a great case of ptomaine poisoning from eating a combination seafood platter at a great Cape Cod restaurant. The illness started to kick in about an hour or so after I got home and continued throughout most of the night. So it can depend on type of food poisoning, like Ptomaine, E. Coli, Salmonella, as well as how much tainted food you ate and your own body tolerance as well.If Botulism is suspected get to a hospital immediately as that is very often fatal!

(sounds like you got the systoms already)
your system starts digestion in about 1-hr. any toxin won't be noted for another 4-6 hrs. it would have to be pretty bad stuff to get you sick ,so if someone else who's already sick and ate the same stuff you did i'd get myself checked in along with em ( jus-kidin bout da spelling !! we got it !) (let's keep some humor in life guy's -gal's)

If you think you ate something bad, and don't feel sick after about 12 hours, you are probably safe.
