The person who hit me came forward 2 months later. I'm thinking because she realized the intersection had cameras. Her insurance company is willing to settle, but I'm not sure of the amount they want to present. I dont really care for getting a lawyer (dont know if I should really) because fortunately, I was hurt minimally compared to other hit/run victims. But again, not sure of what a "typical" settlement amount would be in this case...

There is no formula, no matter what people say, and three times the meds and wages is certainly not the deal. The value depends on how severe the injury is, what kind of treatment you had, lots of different things. Anyone who tells you a number is setting you up for disappointment if they're too high. I don't know California, but I have handled claims for 16 years and I can't tell you what your claim is worth without knowing all the details on your treatment, recovery, actual pain and suffering sustained. Just don't expect to hit the lottery.

I would at least go for medical bills, lost income due to you being unable to work, and in this case, you could probably get some pain and suffering. I wouldn't settle for anything less than $25k ( depending on your med bills, and salary) but otherwise at least go for 3 or 4 times your medical bills. Don't let her insurance company bully you into taking the first offer. If you want more ask for it and don't back down. There will be a point where you will have to settle for a little less so start high and go from there. Good Luck!!!!!

Basically the rule of thumb is...3 times the medical bills and the wages lost during your time off. If the insurance has made a settlement offer, consult with an attorney and get their advice. Insurances companies are looking out for their best interest, make sure you look out for yours. Most attorneys offer a free consult. Good Luck

Well, I'd look for medical bills and lost wages . . . but it's unusual to be off work for a whole month, just from a broken arm.

There isn't any permanant damage. Plus, you don't know what her policy limit is. I'd probably be happy with $5,000 pain & suffering, but they might not offer you that much.
