ie if a christian claims that the bible is the word of god - could they be wrong - or are they infallible on such matters?

Does their claim that it is the word of god add any weight to the claim that it is the word of god?

As we are all human and can only intrepret the Bible as our feeble human minds can, yes, what we say about the Bible could be incorrect.

Now you will have to ask God the same question, who's right and who's wrong?

depends on what you call a christian i suppose. the bible is written in such a way that it is a matter of faith but there is evidence that prophecy has been fulfilled and is still being fulfilled. what the so called christians have is credulity and not faith. this is because they believe without serious question of the faith they follow. faith needs some level of evidence. remember doubting thomas he had to put his hand in the side of the ressurected jesus he did not just believe what he was told. it is the scriptures themselves and not religion which adds weight to the fact that they are the word of god

The Bible as dictated years and years and years ago was the voice of God dictated to men. Now if you know anything about humans at all it should be, give them power or charge of someone, they absolutely will screw it up, and they did with the bible. Monks who did translations say from the ancient Greek, if they weren't;t as educated in Greek as they should be ,might miss a syllable, or not understand the cultural translation. So ,as sure as I'm sitting here typing i am certain the bible has been altered and omitted many things throughout it's history. so as far as understanding it, pray before you read and God could actually help put your mind in the correct state of understanding

The Bible was written by men. It has been edited and its meaning has change over the last couple of thousand years.
Until the invention of movable type and the printing press the bible and all other manuscripts where hand copied. When ever a document is hand copied there is always a drift away from the original over time, just like the children's game of telephone. This is a well documented phenomena and due the to number of versions of the bible, it is highly doubtful that much of the original has been left unaltered.

They could be wrong.
There are a lot of things in the bible that don't make sense.
They say is the word of god because they truly believe is the word of god. I can't argue that.
I do believe though, that the bible is a nice novel. I just wish we could get all the chapters.

How about this apparently what they do works and what everyone else does fails.

Humanism is a lie from hell. Man cannot get to God, therefore through Jesus God comes to us. Read and research for yourself so liars can no longer manipulate you. The government doesn't want you to be christian because then they are unable to control you to work for the "state"

anyone who studies ancient greece and rome and their decline knows that the only way that has lasted is The Christian foundation.

If the Bible is from a superhuman source then it would have to stand up to close scrutiny. It may not be a science textbook, but when it does touch on matters of science it must be accurate. It must also be historicaly accurate, and geographical references need to be corroborated etc. Prophecy /predictions would need to be clear and unambiguous and it's fulfillment verifiable. Most importantly, It's guidance should be practical and timeless. I honestly believe that if one tests the Bible out without bias, it will stand up to what it claims to be, the Word of God {2 Tim 3:16}

Humans are by nature fallable. Saying something is the word of god could be totally wrong. This is for christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, people who worship tin-foil hats, anyone who says anything is the word of god. And saying god told you that you were right doesn't make you any more or less likely to actually be right.

If you define the god you worship as being the supernatural author who wrote the bible through men, then, by definition, the bible is the word of god.

If god is created and sustained through faith then the christians' declarations add, not only weight, but substance to their claim.

It could be incorrect... certainly... anything is possible... But the Bible has been historically, prophetically and scientifically (YES Scientifically) validated. So there isn't much guess work involved...

Besides, what if it is correct... then the Atheists are screwed
