I make iced tea in my coffee pot.(no need to purchase a "specialized" ice tea maker!) Simply add water to the coffee carafe just as you would normally( a full carafe of water). A filter is optional. Put 8 tea bags in the carafe itself.(the tea bags with string/tags work best. You can hang the tea bags and use the lid of the carafe to hold the bags in place. you can use the tagless tea bags too, their just harder to remove from the hot tea.) Turn the pot on and let it "brew" like coffee. Let the tea steep for at least 10 minutes. If you like stronger tea, let it steep longer. For sweet tea, add one cup of sweetener to a gallon container and add the hot tea. Finish filling the container with cold water and stir. Put on ice and you have a great tasting iced tea! You don't have to let the tea cool before refrigerating. Decaffeinated tea bags work just as well. Good Luck and Enjoy!

The trick is to put the sugar in while the tea is hot. Then add cold water.

I have a tea maker, so I can't remember how to make it in a pan. I use about 7 tea bags, 1 cup sugar in a gallon pitcher. Boil water, I'm thinking about 3/4 of a medium saucepan full. Take off the heat and add tea bags. Let them steep a bit. Pour the hot tea into a pitcher after a few minutes. Add the sugar and stir. Then fill the pitcher the rest of the way up with cold water.

The easiest way--and very acceptable here in the southern USA-Home of Sweet Ice Tea, is to throw 2 or 3 family size tea bags (about 6-8 normal size) in the ground basket of your coffee maker (Wash it out B-4 you start, or it may taste like coffee). Run it like usual-but let it sit for about 5 minutes. Pour into pitcher, add sugar (about a cup here in GA, USA), and you have iced tea. If you make it this way, you can fill a glass with ice, pour the hot tea over the ice, and it will still be sweet enough to drink. Or put the pitcher in the refrigerator.

I am from the southern part of the United States - and if you wanna make iced tea this is how you do it (Iced Tea is the nectar of the South!). South = Iced Tea

Ingredients for sweet ice tea:
8 Tea Bags
Ice cubes
Fine sugar (optional)
Lemon Slices (optional)

How to make ice tea:

In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of cold water to a boil.
Remove water from heat and add tea bags.
Cover and let stand 5 minutes.
Remove tea bags and pour into a pitcher.
Add 4 cups of cold water and stir.
Add sugar and lemon to taste. Serve over ice.

It's easier than you think. Get a glass container, fill with water. Put two tea bags (or two teaspoons of tea in a strainer) for each quart of water, and put the teabags or strainer fully into the water. Leave the container out in the sun for several hours, then remove the tea and chill.

The stronger the tea, the longer you let the container sit, the warmer the sun, the stronger your ice tea will be.

Alternatively, you can make tea just as you normally do (boil water, add tea) but make it a bit stronger than normal, then pour into a container and chill.

Start with a saucepan filled with COLD water. If you start with hot the tea will be flat.Heat to boiling.. Remove from heat, add 3 family size or 10 regular size tea bags and let steep until the water becomes tepid.
If you like it sweet, use a one gallon container and put 2 to 3 cups sugar in. Add enough hot water to dissolve the sugar. Now add the tea. Fill with cool water from the tap, squeeze the excess out of the bags.
Its also good if you add slices of fresh oranges or lemon.
