Oh nummm -- that is one of my favorite dinners. Why not a cold cake. Start with a white cake in a 13x9 pan. Cook according to directions. Cool completly IN THE PAN. Poke holes in the cake with the round end of a wooden spoon and pour liquid jello over cake (change flavors as you will need 4-5 cakes for that many people and they might like different flavors) and chill till set. Top with cool whip. Done. Very simply, inexpensive and cool after the hot chili.

2 pints of water
1 pint of sugar

Allow your pineapple sherbet to cool and then pour into a suitable container to freeze
Trifle
Recipe Ingredients
Sponge cake
Strawberry or raspberry jelly (jam)
Sherry or the juice of an orange.
3 bananas
A can of ready to serve custard
½ a pint of whipping cream (double cream)
Decoration for trifle ie shredded (grated) chocolate, chocolate chips, or colored sugar strands.
Trifle Preparation and cooking instructions
First slice or break up the sponge cake(s) into fairly small pieces. Then spread each piece with some strawberry or raspberry jelly (jam).
Next place them in the bottom of a glass bowl and pour over a little sherry, just enough to soak the sponge pieces, or if you prefer not to use sherry the juice of an orange is an excellent alternative.
Then heat the custard and whilst it is warming slice the bananas and arrange on top of the sponge pieces. Next pour the heated custard over the sponges and bananas. When the custard is cold whip up the cream and carefully spread on top of the custard.
Finally decorate the trifle with whatever you like although if using chocolate or sugar strands it’s best to sprinkle them on at the last minute.
