It depends what your parameters are. If you're talking about land animals then the fastest animal is the cheetah which can reach speeds of up to 70mph. This however pales into insignificance when compared to the swoop/dive speed of the Peregrine Falcon which is the fastest bird on Earth and can reach speeds of up to 200mph.
Personally, and on a lighter note, I think it is my three-year-old who can be walking next to me and then, in the twinkling of a eye, be half way across the road . Now that's fast!

Trap-jaw ants bite with a force of over 300 times their own bodyweight, new high-speed digital images have shown.
Employing the same high-speed imaging methods as those used to film flying bullets, an American research team has shown that the jaws can move at exceptional speeds. Peak velocities exceed 180km/h (110mph)
The cheetah is the fastest land mammal in the world. They can reach speeds of up to 110km/hr for short periods of time.
The ostrich is the largest living bird, standing more than eight feet tall and tipping the scales at over 300 pounds. It can't fly, but it can run at speeds greater than 40 miles per hour. That makes it not only the swiftest earthbound bird, but the fastest two-legged animal alive today.
Known as the fastest animal on earth, peregrine falcons can 'stoop' (dive down on their prey) at over 100 miles per hour.

The cheetah is the fastest land animal - upto 70kmh. It holds it's breath throughout though, so can only manage short bursts.
The fastest fish is the Barracuda which can move faster than you can see. The fastest creature of all I think is the peregrine falcon during a dive.
