My friend's cat was so crazy before he got fixed. He used to scratch you and be so mean.

Because they no longer have the hormones that cause sexual behavior and the frustration that occurs. In males they have no testosterone, and in females the ovaries are removed so they no longer go into heat.
See the benefit of neutering the cat? (He didn't get "fixed", by the way - he wasn't broken to begin with. ;-) )

your friend's cat used to scratch you and be mean, I understand you are saying this: BUT-think about what "certain people" do when THEY are sexually frustrated, (anywhere from poedaphiles, cheating on partner, become depressed, incest, ALL sorts of bizarre things) which have been caused by HORMONES, PERIOD!!! So your friends cat was so frustrated, that he or she felt SO distraught and confused and frustrated that the poor cat struck out at anybody that it could. Once that cat gets neutered/spayed, these hormones stop producing, and the become calmed, and learn to enjoy their 9 lives as they should-The only cat that should NOT ge neutered/spayed is ONLY if they are being used as a *****/and or stud (and no stupid replies to that one please, I DIDN'T make up the names) point making, if you are not using the cat for breeding purposes only, then spaying/neutering is purely the HUMANE thing to do, and ALL vets should promote same. Because they don't have any more hormone's..it calm's a cat down..they may still meow and thing's like they did before but it's nothing like it was before they got him fixed

Poor cat its only half a cat now. He's got nothing left to live for. He can probably look after virgins or something....poor little fella.

after thay have been operated they become more quiet
testosterone is not as much as before because it stays in their balls that the doctor takes away so they are not crazy any more

because after they are fixed they don't go into heat which basically means that they don't get horny, and they don't produce anymore testosterone .
