Can't these people think on their own? Don't they know they are going down in shame in Iraq like their father did in Vietnam? No way will they win in Iraq due to the insurgents beating the USA military's butt.

If you analyze it carefully you will see that the reason why they are brain washed it is the same reason that made them join.

As a former US Army enlisted, I can tell you that the brainwashing did not stop us from thinking. The brainwashing is a hell of a lot more subtle than what you think it is. It did not turn us into robots, but it did burn into our heads that there is a time when you obey an order first and then you worry about why you were told to do it.

For example: your platoon sergeant screams DUCK. Do you?

a) duck, and wonder why he screamed?
b) ask "why do you want me to duck?"
c) stand there like an idiot like he wasn't talking to you?

Most military trained personnel would do (a) instinctively.

Bad example: Your lieutenant asks you to shoot an unarmed man, he is already hog tied and not a threat. Of course you don't shoot him, the brainwashing doesn't work that way. You are still a person with moral concerns, not a soul-less robot.

If the insurgents are beating the US, why are we still there? War is a darwinian process, all these insurgents are doing is forcing us to rethink the way we do things. In other words, the insurgency in Iraq is forcing the Army to rethink its training, tactics and equipment.

Want proof? Look into the success ratio for units that use the Stryker instead of up-armored Humvees.

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion I would like to point out that the very men and women you insult are doing something you clearly do not have the guts to do. AND, if it was not for thier willingness to do so, we would be forced to bring back the draft and you might find yourself in the very position you are so dismissive of. So be polite, recognize the sacrifice even if you don't agree with the government behind the actions and say THANK YOU!

I would also like to take a moment to address the fact that Marines and soldiers are not brainwashed. These men and women are trained to be the first into battle and the last ones out. They are frequently left to defend themselves in situations you can't even begin to imagine and to do so takes not only a great deal of training, but a great deal of intelligence and independent thought to come out alive.

And no one who comes home from a war....be it walking on two legs, in a wheelchair or in a coffin draped with a flag...has any reason to feel shame. They have served thier country in a time of need....which is more than you seem willing to do.

Again, weren't you in the Army for 6 years? Did you ever deploy? Did you get your butt beat? I'm not sure of the shame you are talking about. Maybe the shame of sitting behind you computer somewhere spouting diarrhea of the mouth/keyboard, hiding behind the Constitution the military gave you, crying and whining. Yep now that's a shame. Go look in the mirror and tell yourself how wonderful you are. Anyone ever tell you how narcissistic your profile. Oh and we in the military think just fine. I THINK your a punk. With or without brainwashing.

They think fine. I do not believe you were ever in the military & if you were it proves they should check out their soldiers closer. You are a disgrace to all Military & Americans alike.
If you were military or even intelligent you would know that the chain of command is vital for military & private companies alike.
Since when did the employees or soldiers tell the owners & Officiers how to run companies or wars. A real soldier would know that as would a real person.

Are you a complete moron or what? In the ten years of Vietnam we lost approximately 50,000 to an estimated 1,000,000+ Those are 20-1 odds. I haven't gotten the figures for this new war, but we will eventually win and we are whipping them, they are just hiding more. But more importantly than that, since the war on terrorism started 16-18 million girls get to have an education and the boys get an actual education that includes a lot of subjects, not just certain excerpts of the Koran. I have also seen and talked to several vets from there and they say the media and libs are blowing things out of proportion.

i assume you are a liberal or some idiot democrat. Anyway, brainwashed? do you know what it means? I doubt it. Shame, where is the shame in defending your country? I doubt you have the drive or the guts to serve anything other than a burger and french fries at MC Donald's. There is no shame in serving your country. There is shame in sitting back and criticizing those who put their lives on the line to guarantee you the right to tell them they are wrong in doing so. Enjoy your freedom you gutless punk and thank a veteran for making that guarantee a reality.

U S military personnel aren't brainwashed. They are people who appreciate what America stands for and are proud to protect that ideal, even when it means we have to listen to people like you. Go to Iraq or some other country that shares their ideology and live there, under their rules, for a year. If you like it (and if you survive) , just stay there.

The Army and Marine personnel are not brainwashed as you say.
They are well trained, disciplined, confident, and courageous. It's because of them that our nation's language is still English. You have the freedom to ask your moronic question because of them.
Yes, they have kept this country free for even as*holes like you.
You should thank them, maggot mouth!

think about it

would you send in a killing machine with doubts or AI that could change mind and "jump sides"?

same with policemen, the city doesn't want to hire smart cops, just obedient and servile cops to control the criminals (including thier own) that are radical and no longer predictable

would you go into a war knowing you could easily get hurt or killed, or have to kill or be killed? goes against our brain, so some detergent and lots of repetion is the ingredients for brain washing

Warrior Ethos, Huah! Airbowne! ooooooorah! Check!

when the predicted responses from command begin to falter, people are culled from the herds and sent home for growing a brain cell and realizing they too fall under laws and can be, like those at Abu Ghraib, court martialed for "following orders" while thier supperior officers are not, which scares them.

I too was brainwashed, and it took a long time and lots of reality, rest and contemplation to get myself back from that mentality of God and Country first, family and church second, self last and dang the rest
