No, it's not silly. I've used it and had luck with it. It's just like meeting people any other way. Just make sure you meet in a safe, public place the first time, and let someone know where youre going and what youre doing, just for safety.

No, not silly at all. Every person (and I mean ALL of them) I know who is single has used an online dating site at some point. Don't go in expecting to meet your soul mate, but you get a lot of valuable dating experience.
I don't recommend Yahoo Personals... total meat market. Try Match.com. Or if you're more interested in long-term relationships, try eHarmony.
good luck!

Why silly? You meet the same people on-line that you would meet at the mall. I made a few new friends (nothing serious) through on-line dating. And I inadvertantly made a job contact through someone that I met on Yahoo Personals since it turned out that her firm was hiring (Note, that was NOT my original intent when I first contacted her, but you never know who you might meet or where it might go.).

No not really. Some people don't like the bar scene or don't want to hook up with a co-worker. A friend of a friend only goes so far before you have to put your own work in.

It is most assuredly no sillier than going to bars, night clubs, company picnics, singles vacations, etc., etc. Further, you statistically improve your chances dramatically with on-line dating – just because of the numbers of 'possibilities.' You are also insulating yourself from unwanted pests - to a large extent, anyway.

No it's not silly. Especially if you don't get to go out very often.
