I believe both happened, some evolved from apes and God created humans. Cain feared who when he was banished, the ape people.

First, evolution is a denial of inteligent design or creation which leads to calling God a liar. God does not lie.
Secondly, by making the claim that the creation may have taken place over millions or billions of years is also calling God a liar and taking his power away.
Dirt is NOT bacteria, but it contains bacteria. We don't know if there were bacteria in the soil when God created the world or not.
If you want to accept the bacteria theory there is a Russian scientist who developed a theory as to where bacteria came from. His theory is that the bacteria that started life on this earth came from alien space ships that dumped their waste tanks and it landed on earth. This means that YOUR great ancestors was an alien's turd. Does this mean that everry time you take a dump that you flush your relative?
No one has ever witnessed an evolutionary being. Since there is no control on evolution, it should be all around us in various stages; we should see human like animals in the jungles with the apes, but they don't exist. We would find new examples of evolution every day, but that doesn't happen. Evolution does not happen.
If you look at what is happening to people through the ages, you would see that people are getting weaker, not stronger. We are getting fatter and sicker, and these trends go against the main premis of "survival of the fittest". Cancer is rapidly increasing in all it's forms. Heart diseas is rapidly increasing. We are not evolving; we are de-evolving. Humanity is going backward as a result of sin in the world.
Evolution and God can not work together.

Daisy, read the Genesis 2 when animals are actually made after humans came into existance.
Well, the bible literalists think that the earth is 6000 years old, so just that contradicts all evolution. Any Christian that tries to give me the crap that a day (when god says he made the world in 6 days) could mean 10, 100, 1000 years is bullshitting. That would be like me saying "love could mean to have sex, so from now on say 'sex thy neighbor like you sex thy self.'" Just utterly ridiculous.

you should check out guys called William Paley and Charles Darwin. they have contradicting ideas but basically Christians believe that although God created us we designed us to evolve on our own. you've got a good point about god and scientists but most Christians believe science and belief work together. I'm not christian by the way

They could be if the idiots in the past would have left out trying to explain the existence of everything and just talked about spirituality. Then the lie would be more believable.

i know what you mean, have you ever read "Inherit the Wind" in one of the scenes a lawyer says something like this :God says he created the universe in 7 days, but back then no one knows how long 7 days were, the years we use are based on how fast we revolve around the sun but back then there wasn't one so 7 years for God was more like billions of years to us.
yes science and religion could be on the same page, humans just are not on that page yet:)
p.s.i like the way you think, try explaining this to some religious zealot, and you will find a lot here.

It would make sense, but dirt is not made from bacteria. It just contains bacteria. Along with bugs and other critters.

Well, you either believe in God or you dont. You can not just take out certain parts of the Bible and say."I want this to be true, and not that." You need to believe the whole thing. He made us in six days, not six billion years.

yep, I agree that a day to God is not our understanding of 24 hours. Have you also noticed how the order of creation that you read in Genesis, is the same order of evolution conjectured by scientists (first plants, then fish, then land animals, then humans) interesting coincidence isn't it?
