Im going on a two week holiday to Tokyo, and I wanted to take bare minimum of luggage. New hand luggage rules say they allow hand luggage up to...

56 centimetres long (approximately 22 inches)
45 centimetres high (approximately 17.5 inches)
25 centimetres deep (approximately 9.85 inches).

I ve found a trolley case that comes within these parameters and says it has a 62 litre capacity.

It is essentially a suitcase though...can you have such a case as hand luggage?

How much clothing might one expect to fit in a 62 litre case?

Obviously if I could eliminte the need for putting a case in the hold it would save all kinds of stress!

Im doing a simerler thing and in Tokyo. Ive been there before and I took a suitcase (kept it at my acomm.) and took a backpack (a cheep medium size school bag is good).

Make sure that your suitcase is light and has wheels as i am sure that you will have to get on and off trains with your suitcase at somestage and keep it light to carry up subway stars.

If you keep your suitcase at your accomadation, take you backpack withyou (even with your suitcase). When you go, Keep both of these light and dont put much in the backpack as you will want to buy gifts from Japan.

With putting your suitcase in hold. It is very easy to retrive at Tokyo Narita International. Once you pass Passport Inspection, you go down the stairs and serch your flight number and carracel. Then on to customs inspection. Then Japan is yours!!!

It is that simple!!!

Enjoy your trip in Tokyo! It is a great city to enjoy!

If it is less than those measurements then you will be allowed to carry it on, assuming you don't have any banned items in it. Many airlines have a maximum weight as well as maximum size so make sure you are not over-filling the bag. I don't have a ruler in front of me but I do travel a lot and I'm guessing your bag is around the size of my carry-on. I can fit 2 dresses, pajamas, a pair of jeans, a pair of Converse tennis shoes ("chucks"), a t-shirt or two, undergarments and my laptop in it. If you don't mind only having a few outfits, you should be able to take 2 weeks worth of clothes.

PS when you stow it in the overhead bin, put it in so that its handle is facing out; if it has wheels on the bottom, the wheels should be facing inward towards the wall of the plane. This lets more people fit their stuff in the overhead and is really important (and courteous) when stowing a larger bag.

Check with the airline you are traveling on. All the overseas carriers have different rules. Remember you cannot have anything liquid in your luggage or anything that can be squeezed from a tube. You cannot even carry on a bottle of water.

You can bring a razor, but only if it's for shaving hair, not for box cutting. And no you won't have to put it in the liquids bag.
