We don't eat the right combination of foods (ever heard of a "balanced diet"), we often boil/nuke/char a portion of the nutrients out of our raw food, and as far as trace minerals required to drive some essential bodily functions(your heart needs selenium to beat, for example), the food we eat is too clean. There are virtually no colloidal minerals suspended in filtered or distilled water--that means no bad minerals, but also no good minerals leached into our drinking water from good ol' mother earth. And a bit of dirt can actually help the immune system fight off microbacteria.

We do get all nutrients needed from our food! If you've been told to take pills then discuss with that person about stopping the pills and simply have more variety in what you eat. Don't forget to include some fresh veggies and fruits everyday for better vitamin intake. Also 15 min. outside for vitamin D from the sun ;-)

You can get all the nutrients if you vary your diet widely. When you don't get a varied diet you may be consuming too many processed foods where the nutrients have been dissipated during the processing of the raw ingredients.
