Novemberlilly:
You have asked a genuine question, and it appears that you have received a few good suggestions and a lot is childish, immature ones.
As to what to wear, as stated before, this is a quasi-formal event so something you would feel appropriate for church would probably be acceptable. Remember that it will be outdoors and at this time of the year, South Carolina is usually warm and humid. (Have an umbrella in your car, just in case)
As to a gift, disregard the fact that he is graduating military basic training, and just select anything that you think would be nice to celebrate a special occasion.
When you do see him, please tell him I said "Thank You" for his sacrifice and service to the country. My family and I sleep safe and sound at night because there are many fine, young men and women, such as your boyfriend, willing to keep watch the nation. And "thank You" to you for sharing him with the country for a while.
ps; See if he would be willing (in private) to sing "the Fort Jackson Boogie" for you, "it's a craaaaaaazy song"

Get him new civvies, none of his old clothes will fit right. He will either come back leaner so his clothes will hang off him, or he will bulk up and his shirts won't close right.
Take him to a quiet hotel and let him chill. Wake up late, no hurrying around for any reason. He has spent 8 weeks running and hurrying up for everything, so let him wind down.
Don't sweat the food. We ate really good in basic training, but we missed the comfort food. Figure out if there is something he really missed and make sure he gets to eat it at least a couple of times. It doesn't have to be fancy, it has to be something he really enjoyed.
He still has to go to AIT, so he won't have a lot of room for whatever else you may want to give him as gifts. He will at most have a wall locker, a small lockable dresser, a desk (that he will share with up to 8 people) and optionally he may have a footlocker, which will probably end up on top of the foot locker. If he doesn't have an iPod, get him one once he is allowed to keep personal electronics. If you can't get him the iPod try to get him at least a cheap CD player. Another gift that will be very useful to him is a Timex Triathlon wristwatch. They are very affordable, last forever and they are very good for training.

You dress according to the situation and weather. Usually, dressing like a cheap hooker does nothing to impress anyone. I'd be as comfortable as you can be. Just look nice.
No, you can't hug and kiss all over him. He'll be in uniform and you need to respect that. It is part of the "rules". That includes holding hands. You should respect him and the uniform at all times.
I don't know about attending church with him. They're usually given time for worship. However, you'll have to ask him before or a Drill Sergeant after you arrive. Don't count on spending alot of time with him. He still has responsibilites. The main time you'll have with him is Family Day. There's usually a presentation and a lunch or dinner. After that, they're released to spend time with you until the time they're told to return. Usually on time for "lights out". Then, you'll see him the next day at graduation. After graduation, he'll have some things to get ready, then be allowed to spend the rest of the day with you. Once again, he'll have to return for "lights out". Whether or not you see him the next day will depend on when he leaves AIT.
I don't know what you would get him for a gift. That would depend on you and him and your relationship. Usually, the first things guys go buy after graduation is DVD's, music, shoes, clothes and stuff like that. Maybe you could just take him out after and ask him what he wants. Then you know it'll be the right gift.
Good luck!!

hope this might help. Good question. My view is from 21 years of serving, so I hope I can remember back to 82. As far as religious symbology, he'd have to decide. If it was me, I'd have worn it because it would represent a reminder of someone who cares for me regardless. In terms of what to expect? Honestly, he's going to have a different mind-set, more focused. I developd this hard-core personality...chaulk it up to youth and being young. Gung-ho. As far as dressing, obviously I'm much older in age with a different perspective. I think a Dress or looking nice for your friend is good. I don't know about looking too provocative...Your at a formal event, so while a woman's body is nice to admire, it took away from the 'decorum' if lady looked too provocative. Wearing a shirt that is see-through with no Bra (I apologize for this) is really kinda out of line. I don't mean to suggest this represents you. As for a gift, your presences will be a gift in and of itself. Good luck to the both of you.

they are going to be a lot of people there. they're not going to be able to watch everybody so you can hug and kiss him. they'll just ride him. you will be in sitting in the stands watching, watch the weather, rain or shine they are still going to through the graduation. don't listen to the rumors. like people said in here; take him to dinner and go get a room if you can. as for the medal; it's totally up to him to me it's a good idea.

A nice dinner would be good. Try for something both of you can enjoy since you've had to go though all the time without him. Or do something you both like together like a concert or sports game.

Wild sex and a great meal go without saying. For a memorable gift, find a really good folding combat knife. Get it at a place that will let him exchange it so that he can have just what he needs.

Have him meet you at a fancy hotel, be in the room with only highheels on when he comes in, of course make sure he comes alone. HAHAHAHA
Worked for me in 1972 with my first wife.
