Try taking him to the youth court. I worked at an alternative school and the parents and staff would do this with children who just were very hard to handle. It usually did the job. There is always someone bigger and badder. Let him know this could quite possibly be his next step. If he still is getting in trouble see about leaving him there for the day, to see how it really is like. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
But, before you do anything like that make sure it is not a problem with the children in the school or a teacher. A parent is always the last to know if their child is being bullied. A child who is good at home and not at school has a reason he is acting out.

I think it might have something to do with the teacher. Have you done surprise visits to check on him at school. If he doesn't ack like that at home then there is something going on at school that he is not telling you about. If you can't see to catch anything then get him a new teacher. If he is not acting that way at home then don't put him on meds.

Men seem to influence a childs behavior more.
My kids walk all over me, but for my husband, walk the line...without spanking.
If he really is that out of control, call your local Sheriff department, explain the situation, let them come and visit him, or even better visit the jail....let him see where this behavior will land him, scare the crap out of him, it will be hard mom but I dont know what else to tell you.
Pray about it.

I agree check out the school first of all by just showing. Or just tranfer his schools and see if he does better. Or teachers. Maybe he has authority issues tho. you really should think about the school.

Sometimes food preservitives can cause people to act out this way. MSG is known to really cause problems. Maybe you son needs to talk to someone if he is nice to friends and family.

I think you need to scare the **** out of him. Talk to your local police dept. see if they will talk to him and show him the inside of a cell and teach him that the direction he is heading he will be living in one of them. I did this with my brother, and they let him spend a while day, eat crappy food and everything. He changed really fast. He is 10.
