Hello everyone. My hair is a light to medium golden blonde almost all over. My roots are growing in and they are a dark ash blonde to a light ash brown...somewhere in the middle. Well, I can't afford to have my hair done again so I want to do it myself. However, I don't want to lighten my roots to blonde. I want to darken my hair all over. My hairdresser used an ash base once before and it turned my hair grayish-blue. Should I just stick to a neutral color? I don't want to use a golden base color either because I don't want too much gold. Do you think a neutral base will be okay? I bought Garnier Medium Brown. Any comments or suggestions?

You can go to a beauty school to get it done. It's cheaper. I heard they only charge for the product. Never tried it, but has a friend who did. Her hair turned out fine. ^_^

I had the same problem and bought a box of the new "root cover"
that's on the shelves. It's cheaper than the "whole head" colors.
Instead of doing all my roots, I used it like a highlighter, painting it on with a brush from another haircolor box I had. I got a color similar to the roots the first time, then a shade lighter the next time. Worked great!

Just to be safe, I'd go to the salon. Would you rather screw your hair up or just dish out the few extra bucks? If it is a budget issue, just think of what you can cut back on or go without to make up for the $80. It would be worth it to make sure your hair is done right and professionally.

All that stuff is way too scary for me! I would call the number that is on the instruction manual inside the Garnier box! They have color experts standing by that can help you figure out what exactly to do to fix your problem! good luck!!!

Choose a color that is two shades lighter than your roots, or it will look very dark to you. I would not use a blue based color.

I tried that shade. It turned sort of orangy red & my hair was almost your color. Try a dark aburn. I did. Mine looks soooo
cool, now. Vibrant lots of highlights. Seems to change every time light hits it.
