Hi there,

If you have been caught speeding past a live camera, then you may receive an NIP in the post - Notice of Intended Prosecution within 14 days of the offence.

NOTE 1 - I make mention of the term LIVE CAMERA. Not all camera's are live. There are numerous dummy camera's up and down the country. They flash and act as if you have been caught. Even if it is a live camera, it may be out of film.

NOTE 2 - It depends on the type of camera. Speed cameras we have already mentioned. If you got caught running a red light, the NIP is on the way !

NOTE 3 - Speed camera's and mobile speed traps have a target speed. This is GENERALLY +10% + 2MPH. Therefore 30MPH becomes 35MPH, 40MPH becomes 46MPH etc. You may be below the target speed.

The Police don't hand out Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notices (EFPN) without good reason. The speeding penalty system is there for a reason, to protect other road users and act as a deterrant.

That said, there is the fact that they fund copper's coffers !!!

I hope you don't receive a brown envelope in the post !

Dan

Week or two, some days a couple of days, sometimes a month. Depends on how busy your police are.

'Twats they are!'

Yeah, your right. They are twats. That is, if you mean they are twats in the sense that they try and save people's lives by preventing people from speeding through the city, streets, highways and what have you of the country. I mean, the posted speed limit isn't a law right? It's more of a guideline.... :-/

Here's a hint. If you don't want to get speeding tickets, then DON'T SPEED MORON! Can't get a speeding ticket for not speeding.

They usually get the fine part out to you asap but may fart about with the points bit to prolong the agony. I got burned by a couple of 'zero tolerance' Environmental Wardens recently for dropping a ciggie end in the gutter. It stings more when you have to admit that they're right and you're wrong, while trying to the resist the urge to stick their notebook where the sun don't shine..sideways. What's the bet that these kind of guys all drive around at Mach10 (but have hidden cam snoopers on their dashboards) and flick smokes out of their wound down windows while waiting at traffic lights. Tossers!
