Yesterday, I heard an interview with our Prime Minister. He was asked about global warming, "Shouldn't Australia be doing more to cut CO2 emissions, since the fate of the Earth is at stake?" His answer was, "that would be against the short and medium term business interests of Australia." To me that was insane. What good are short and medium term interests if humans can't survive on Earth in 100 years? So, I'm asking everybody, What will you do now? I don't drive, and I've cut back on electricity use. What about you?

I do loads:
I turn off the TV/lights when I'm not in the room.
I turn off the water when I'm brushing my teeth.
I recycle practically everything.
I grow my own tomatoes, peas, cucumbers and parsley.
I buy organic food if its not overpriced.
Hope that made you feel better.

But the truth is, what we are doing is obviously important, but it needs to be done on a large scale, otherwise...you know

The main problem is that we are too many, and growing.
As the dominant species on the planet, having no natural predators (apart ourselves) and because of the progresses of medicine, most newborn survive until they procreate. Population is exploding.
After world war II, not even the conflicts are able anymore to reduce the population.
Because of technology every human being uses more energy, more resources and pollutes more than in the past.
Could we go back and renounce electricity, automobiles, etc? Unthinkable!
Then, what can be done?
In the short term we could start rebuilding the forests and protect the sea plankton which produces oxygen. Also, we should try to limit the population growth (very difficult).
In the long run we should start emigrating to space and/or to other planets, keeping and protecting the earth as a park, as a precious bio-diversity reservoir.

I do quite a few things to "save our planet" but I'm not going to tell you. I don't want to be lumped in with all those tree-hugging, global warming idiots who can't see reality through all the histrionics of "environmental politics", so, I'll do my part, not to save the globe, but to just do things more efficiently and carefully and intelligently, and I'll let my kids and grandkids worry about it, if they want to, when their times come. God Bless you.

I've taken a small step, but at least it's a beginning! I limit my driving to NO MORE THAN one tank of gas per month. After I burn that one tank, I have to find alternative ways to get places. It's not easy but it can be done!
