Not just cops....think about this....everything we held dear from years ago is dismissed and sometimes spat on, called intollerant, biggoted...everything that was looked on as good has now become bad and everything that used to be considered bad is now considered main stream society.
Cops used to be respected as well as teachers and fireman. As a kid you were afraid to get into trouble at school or your parents would whoop your behind when you got home. Homosexuals were in the closet and were rightly classified by the FBI deviants. We didn't have the ACLU running around tearing at our morale fiber. We didn't have to worry about foreigners taking our jobs or killing us en mass. We had jobs. The Love Boat and Falcon Crest were considered racy!
Today, we have a fat lesbian on TV who adopts kids much faster than a married man and woman and who attacks Christians with impunity. The teachers have no control over students.Look at the frequency of violent crimes and our prison population is out of this world. There's nothing but filth on every channel. You call customer service and it's Abdi from India and you cannot understand a word he has to say and likewise he does not understand you. You are supposed to work at Taco Bell while Maytag, Hoover, Goodyear and the big companies move out of the country.
Yeah, cops have it tough all right but it is understood when you sign on that you will be dealing with societies scum but the worst thing is to see all facets of our society crumbling before our very eyes.
Let's have the b@lls to do something about it shall we all?

I don't care if people - who really don't know me- respect me or not. But to disrespect the men and women of law enforcement as a whole just puts one's ignorance on display.
I treat them with respect - from the little old lady who calls because "someone" damaged her rose bush to the filthy molester I would just as soon drop down a well. That is what they pay us to do...show respect.
But am I the only cop who doesn't watch cop shows? I liked Millenium and even X-files, and watch a cop movie now and then (mostly European or Asian) but I couldn't even name another cop show made past the 80's - the last time they were any good. Okay, I can name the Shield, but I've never even seen it...

Elizabeth,
Although I cannot properly answer your question, I will say this to you: I am the opposite of what you described: I detest all of those USA cop shows, while I respect the law, law-enforcers, and police officers... I have to, looking the way I do!
Cheers!

That's a very interesting question indeed.
As a media and popular culture student, the answer would be in finding out the demographic who watche these Cop shows and why in fact they do. A long and tedious study.
I don't like them and I also don't like certain individuals in the law enforcement Niagara area (because I've had the misfortune of reporting an assult for which they blamed me).
I wouldn't dream of wasting my presious eyesight to watch that campy laden with discrimination, degredation and Uncle Charlie sh*t.
As per why someone who fits this category would, their guess is as good as mine.

It is so easy to sit on the couch watching TV and rooting for the bad guys. But who does everyone call when they really are in need of help? Law officers help a lot of people when they are off duty as well.
