teenagers are easily swayed with gimmicks and may vote for the "cool" candidate without really knowing the issues. Plus they have more important things to do, like homework.

Sorry, no pros only cons. I am not sure 18 yr old are old enough
to study & reasonably vote. I am sure most 16 yr olds would take the time to find facts - they just take the word of the media.
You can tell age 90% of time on here by answers they give.
Watch ABC, CBS, NBC & read Rolling Stone & you know their answers. 21 yrs old allows more maturity - it was changed because if you can serve in Military then you can vote. Are 16 yr olds going to war? No thank goodness.

Well...I think one of the major issues about letting a 16 year old vote would be that there are too many topics in politics that don't effect that age group...MOST people of that age are not paying taxes, adn are therefore not concerned about the MANY issues that are taxed based during election times...nor are they able to serve in the military, they can barely drive for pete's sake! Not to say that they have no political savy, bc I know plenty of 16 year olds that are definetly smart enough to know how to vote for the best candidate, but there are a large group of 16 year olds, that are just not wise enough to know who they should vote for, and I agree...they would probably make their decisions based on which candidate mentioned Justin Timberlake or Xbox in a speech.
Most people that age, don't even know what poilitical party they belong to...which...actually could be a PRO! Instead of voting sinmply along party lines...which be honest, MANY adults do, they may actaully base their opinions of candidates on political debates and stances...party loyalty is a big issue when it comes to voting and without that bias, a 16 year old may be able to make the BEST INFORMED decision, as opposed to just voting based on their party.
Maybe if we started teaching politics a little bit earlier, I would trust the future of this nation to 16 year olds...until then, I leave it up to...I dare say..."the adults!"

I don't think their are any cons...most voters have NO idea what the issues are, so saying 'kids don't know anything' isn't fair. You don't have to know anything to vote. But many laws and rules are made that concern 16 year olds and 17 year olds. If you can try them as adults, they should reap the benefits of participating in making those laws. I guess the biggest problem would be that they use voter registration for things like jury duty as well, so they would have to come up with a different program for that...

Bad reasons.. most 16 yr olds are not responsible enough to make informed decisons at the polls..
another... I don't want some kid without a concept of how the world really works having a say in how my life gets lived..

There are no good reason to lower the voting age. Kids that young are not smart enough to vote. Hell, the last time Clinton won women at exit polls said the reasson they voted for him was he was the cutest. Maybe the USa needs to go back to only men voting.

No pros. - 16 yr olds are too immature to vote as are 18 yr olds in my opinion.
In my opinion people should be required to show proof of civics education before they can vote. The should understand the difference between a representative republic and a socialist democracy.
They should understand the original intent of the Constitution and Bill of Rights and not be given to interpretation of these documents.
The should know full well the implication of what our founders declared in 1776:
. --That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. at 16 you don't really know what is going on in the political word other than what you see on TV. they should not allow it to be 16 as this is when a teen is first becoming aware of the things happening around them outside of school.
