See you working your tush off cleaning the house...mowing the lawn...or what ever...but NEVER EVER offer to help you out....these are well mannered kids that other parents tell me that they are so helpful and polite....I keep thinking...are they talking about my kids??...I am not asking how to get them to help...that is easy...you say do it!!....but why do they offer to help others...but not their own mother???

Time to post chore schedules. I don't do for my kids if they don't do for me. If they need rides to the movies or money for the arcade I turn a deaf ear if the chores aren't done. Its not to late to make them more responsible. Its very hurtfull to hear that your kids are wonderful for their friends parents. Don't wear yourself out! Later they will appreciate what you made them do when it comes to that first job.

, I've been wondering the same. my kids don't do a thing. But i was thinking how sometimes i don't like cleaning my house either, but when i go to a friends house i have no problem helping out. Sometimes i think my kids sit back and watch me work my butt off, and are getting jollies from it. Maybe we've done something to them sometime in there life, that they are trying to pay us back for. You know, like that spanking we gave them back when they were 4. W ish i knew, but the children of today are just plain lazy.

They're busy enjoying being a kid, let em soak it up, it only lasts for barely over a decade lol.....they'll have up to 90 more years most likely "cleaning and mowing the lawn".......probably wondering this same question about kids of their own lol.

Because they feel they don't have to. My children always offer to help me and they are only 8 and 6. My daughter has helped ever since her brother was born and she was only 2 then.

maybe it's because they are used to the protocol of mom asking for help when she needs it... Perhaps you could mention how nice it would be if they offered every once in a while.

Because you are going to love them no matter what. They do that to impress the other adults. They don't need to impress you , you already love them.

Because they don't know that they EXPECTED to ask.
And if they did know, it is unatural for them to volunteer to work. It is better for you to slowly start granting them this priviledge by delegation.
