Someone told me this the other day and it got me thinking: Is a pedofile "doing the best he can"? Is a terrorist "doing the best he can"? Is a homicidal mother who kills her children "doing the best she can"? I do not think truth is relative. In my mind, people who resort to harming others are not doing their best, they are succumbing to their most base desires. What do you think?

Here you are talking about Murder, sexual perversion, acts of
terrorism.Do you really think that people that do these things
are honest and careing folks?Well, I just killed off 30 people,I
know thats against the law, but really IM doing the best I can
under the circumstances,Im sure God will understand!!Is this
what you have in mind?Well you know people can be forgiven
even the most grievous of sins, if they repent and are truly
sorry for there actions.the Bible states their is only one sin which
man/woman cannot be forgiven, that is blasphemy of Gods Holy
spirit.,look at king David in the Bible, one of Gods trusted servants
yet he got to eyeing a beautiful woman bathing, and instead of
turning away,he let desire come up into his heart, well that led to
all kinds of calamity.as you can read for yourself in the Bible the
events that unfolded were catastrophic.David caused the death
of Bath-shebas husband Uriah, she became pregnant with Davids
child through fornication, they married, well of coures bad things
David and Bath-sheba.But David did repent and Jehovah forgave
him.So a person can turn around, repent and be forgiven, but he
cant keep making the same mistakes over and over again. If he
does then of course.... not good!! to say the least. So I dont
really think a pedofile is just having a bad day if he continues in
this perversion. The account of King Davids trangressions is in
the book of 2nd Samuel chapters 10-11.....p.s. I did'nt mean to sound like some kind of know it all. I realize that you were only
questoning the theory about even the worst people are sincere
some times.thank you...

I think a better phrase would be, "People can only be expected to do the best they can". People can do far worse than their best.

We've all done things that were not "the best we could do", and while situations may be different for some, much of the evil done in this world is against our better judgement, against our moral compass, and certainly not, "the best we can do".

I DO agree that some people are in situations where their poor actions can be viewed as "the best they can do". Did the mother who killed her kids experience post-pardom depression? Does the terrorist honestly believe that what he's doing is the greatest good? If so, then they ARE doing the best they can...but too often that's not the case.

I think most perants do the best they can for their children but there will always be exceptions and most terrorists are brain washed but some may honestly beleave they are doing the best for themselves

I don't believe that all people are doing the best they can. I know that's not true because I don't always do the best I can, and I am one of the most decent people I know. Not to be conceited or anything. I think most people are doing as they please whenever circumstances permit it.
