1. Should public schools be required to set aside time during the school day to allow for religious observances by its various religious groups?

2. Do you think that tax support for private denominational schools should be extended beyond Catholics in this province to other groups such as Hindus, Protestants, Muslims and Hebrews?

3. Is there a place in a multicultural, multi-racial, multi-denominational country like Canada for seperate "religious" schools? Would you support a government which made such a schools system a reality?

Any other thoughts? I really just wanted to get a variety of opinions.

As religious observances disrupt and take time away from academics in schools, it is not possible to make any allowance for them in public schools. If a family feels strongly enough that their child needs to observe religious rites and ceremonies during school, then they can send their child to a religious school.

As it is debatable whether religion in any way benefits the community as a whole, tax dollars should not fund private religious schools (however, as non-profit entities, they should all be tax exempt). That funding needs to go to the public school system. This leaves the issue of support up to a religion's, well, supporters. If you feel a religious education is worth-while, you can contribute. If not, you don't.

I'm from the US, so you know our stance on religion in schools (if you've spent any time at all on this site), but I tried to take a more general stance. I don't know anything about the Canadian public school system, so sorry if I have a wrong idea somewhere.
