Love Shepard is correct, it's really thou shalt not murder.
And sneaking up on a animal with a prederterminded motive of killing it is not murder..... oh... wait....

My beliefs no not fit to any religion, but I have received the call and guess I am therefore a member of the true church?? (does not sound soo good maybe, well make it easy Christian, although most don't dig my views and feel I must have been extra bad to go through what I have)
Do not hunt, do not eat meat and think this is what was asked in the second covenant as well. Fish yes, on occasion still, they have no silver cord and therefore are not cut short their chance of realizing. (also second convenant) Probably gonna be more and more went from eating all to eating no pork/ham to kosher style to kosher (there are reasons for these diets, they are better for the body) to veg with fish so next prbl veg, maybe vegan...
To maintain certain levels of consciousness certain diets are required and my believe is Jesus taught that, and ate like I do now. My attention was drawn to the convenant several times in a short period and I hardly ever ate meat, so quit it. Also I had had a "forced fast" occur to me where I would throw out meat among others, that was part of the decision as well. For years I hardly ever ate it, now not at all, ok the poor fish, well maybe the one in the freezer is the last one.
For both health reasons and the murder argument...
I do wanna urge people to pray over meat. I feel discordant energies and they are present with meat. You wave your left hand over the food while holding the plate with the right hand while praying you get the energies out (or get kosher, then somone has done that). Otherwise you eat the animals fear.. (feeling that helped me getting veg as well)
Yes we need to be good to animals as well, kick your dog you go to Gehenna, it is written...
Why?? and you??

I think the do not kill is for killing humans. I believe that people have always hunted for food. I think there is a difference between killing and murder.
I'm not quite sure what you are going for here. You seem to be against killing in general. Your questions have a common theme. Death, whether by murder or natural causes is going to happen.
But, to answer your question, I'm neither. I buy my meat from the grocery store. It's a part of life, and you won't go to hell for either killing your own food, or having someone else do it for you.
As for my religion, I don't think it really matters. If you are a Christian and eat meat, you are not committing a sin, and if you are an atheist, then it really doesn't matter because they don't believe in God.

I would prefer it if everyone hunted their own food if they eat meat to see and deal with the process of killing a living creature so that they know what is going on at a mass scale in the slaughter houses.
I do eat meat sometimes, but prefer fish. I am a hunter just like a Tiger.

Vegetables are alive too. They don't do much, and they probably don't feel pain, and probably aren't self-aware, but they *are* alive, and are killed when we pick and eat them. No, I'm not a vegetarian, in case you couldn't tell.
Edit: Oh, but they do bleed. If you cut a plant open it leaks fluid, doesn't it? As far as pain goes, so what? Is it ok to kill someone if I sedate them first? Is painless death not still death? Believe me, I have no problem with eating plants or animals. Life feeds on life, it's the way the world works, but plants are life too, and we kill them to keep us alive, just like animals. Just something one has to come to terms with. I wasn't talking about murder, I was talking about killing. If you were talking about murder, you should have said murder.

Did you know the inuit have over 100 words for snow? Did you know that none of the tribes in the Amazon have even one word for snow?
Why is this relevant?
Hebrew has at least five words that mean 'kill' or 'murder', each with a different meaning. The word used in the commandment implies unrighteous murder. You're allowed to kill in self defense, you're allowed to kill animals for meat.
As for your arguement, did you know that most fresh plants are still alive when you eat them? Then you plunge them into your gastric juices and... gasp... kill them.
The only way to avoid killing? Die.. oh.. wait... then all the symbiotic and parasitic life on you dies too... danged if you live and danged if you die. You're a killer. As are we all.

I'm an atheist and gave up hunting over twenty years ago.
I do not like the taste of wild game and it seemed pointless to execute animals for no reason other than to amuse myself.
But, if people hunt to put food on the table, that's an acceptable reason.
And, shooting lawyers seems to be fashionable this season, so I guess that's okay, too.
I'm not a vegetarian because in my view, all things are alive and eating a tomato is no different than eating a cow. They are made of the same stuff.

If you are referring to "Thou shalt not kill" from Exodus 20:13, I think you need to keep in mind that you are reading an english translation (the King James Version, in this case).
I suggest that you refer to the source section below and keep in mind that this is an act against another person, not toward a beast/animal. God would not have commanded us to not kill animals, as until Jesus Christ atones for our sins, God commanded man to kill animals to atone for their sins.

I am a Southern Baptist, the Bible doesn't say don't kill, it says don't murder. If God gave the animals for food, as He did in the Old Testament, and as He did again in Acts 10, who are you to condemn anyone for eating meat?

yeah, except for the fact that it's talking about humans! It's dealing with murder, we are not to murder. Murder that is premeditated. It's dealing with killing someone without a cause. Killing was perfectly acceptable, if you had a valid cause: war,crimes,thief,burglar,..whatever there are a number of things where killing is acceptable.
