Are you refering to the A/C compressor or an auto leveling compressor?
The A/C compressor will cycle automatically when system pressures require it to do so, it is considered normal unless it cycles off and on rapidly.
The auto leveling compressor will cycle when it senses that the vehicle ride level has changed. It will run just long enough to pressurize the system and then cycle off. It should not do this rapidly.

On every car, the air conditioning compressor cycles on and off to maintain temperature. It's more obvious with a 4 cylinder engine because the engine speed drops from the increased load.
