No, salt will dry and damage, you need something with aloe and silver to kill the bacteria and help the skin moisturize. Someone told you salt, but that is for canker sores inside the mouth not cold sores on your lip. (did you mean canker sores and not cold sores?) email me for more, I'd like to help.

It probably makes it worse. Salt will damage the tissue that's already inflamed. Ask a pharmacist to recommend an ointment.

ouch that would really burn. If you want over the counter buy either abreva $15-$17 really good. or Zilactin which i use both together i switch throughout the day on both, or go to a dr. and have a prescription made out.
