Just started playing football again at the age of 22 after a couple of years away (still got it), been jogging and staying fit in between but really struggling to take oxygen in a multi-paced game of football. Obviously doing sprints and generally working on changing paces whilst running will help but is there any experts who could throw a bit more advice at me?

Cheers

Swimming is a great way to improve your lung capacity. If you continue to have problems getting enough air when you exercise-you really should see the doctor. At 22 you should be having no problems......unless you smoke.

air intakes can indeed provide better gas mileage since the manner of air flow into the cylinder can provide better a better mix with the gas and burn during the ignition cycle. This mostly has to do with intake design, though. A new intake of the same design will not improve gas mileage. New intakes for aftermarket are designed to improve power instead of gas mileage. So, depending on what you are planning on doing with the manifold, it does not seem an option is available to improve you gas mileage

Not an expert but I know you are meant to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
And as an ex chior member then we were taught to control and use our diaphram to get more out of our lungs, rather than beathing in and feeling the whole lower part of the abdomen expanding too. OK - not football, but I think the breathing principle would be the same!

Yoga is great at focusing on your breathing as it helps you to control your breathing rather than it controlling you. Generally I would suggest slow deep breaths from the bottom of you stomach then middle of your chest and then the top of your chest, and reverse this on the out breath. There are also other types of breathing. In yoga we breath in and out though our nose, but from my own experience I would not recommend this if you were running about. Try to open out your chest more as well by bringing your shoulders back. When I train in running I breath according to my pace to keep a rhythm.

Take a deep breath and hold it for longer, then keep doing this over and over throught the match/training.
holding the breath for longer allows your lungs to absorb all of the oxygen.

Well, you can't really do it when you're running, but get somthing like ice, and put it on the back of your neck. That will open up your airflow, letting you breath easier.

Aloe Vera drinking gel.

Seriously, it works!

Oh, avoid Aspartame - this causes the airways to swell and become thinner and you end up asthmatic.

Make sure to breathe from your gut, not just your chest. You can get deeper breaths by allowing your diapragm to widen as well as deepen.
